Subject: The Mudcat Prom From: Caitrin Date: 26 Mar 00 - 09:13 AM *The gym/auditorium looks a lot different now that Caitrin and the rest of the decorations committee got up all the tin foil stars and soft lights, and Leej and his crew dug the canals. Up on the stage, Caitrin, in her official sixties miniskirt, is getting everything ready to go.* Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. (I, of course, use the terms loosely.) Welcome to the Mudcat Prom...As our dear host Leej has told you, our theme is "A Magical Night in Old VEnice," and I'd like to have one more round of applause from our canal diggers, and thanks to all those underclassmen who agreed to work as boatmen. Y'all're great! Now, it's time to start the dancing! DJ, get us some music! |
Subject: RE: BS: The Mudcat Prom From: Peter T. Date: 26 Mar 00 - 11:13 AM We need to have a room for people whose experiences of proms were even lower than Wyowoman's. I envisage something designed with the following characteristics: it is connected to both the men's and women's washrooms, but is more like an antechamber so that you can go there when you are totally humiliated and not see anyone, but you can say you have to go to the washroom. It has no walls so you can't be a wallflower. You can throw up in peace and privacy. Attached to this special room is another special room where future Mudcatters in your later lifetimes are waiting to dance with you, and when you come in, the music is fine, and everyone talks to everyone, everyone dances with everyone, the beautiful and the plain, the smart and the not so smart, the rich and the not so rich, and no one goes home sad. No one dances with his or her relatives unless they want to. No one stands out in the parking lot with stains on her new dress, crying uncontrollably. No one hits anyone else. All the romance of a Venice night somehow magically pours off of the cheap crepe paper, and the moon rises over the rim of the basketball hoops. There is a big banner overhead which says "WELCOME TO THE BODHISATTVA ROOM: dancing for all, down to the lowest blade of grass." |
Subject: RE: BS: The Mudcat Prom From: Amos Date: 26 Mar 00 - 11:18 AM Dang, Peter T. you are sooooo good! I hear ye! Y'know I never had aprom...and it's just as well, I guess. Didn't do parties of that kind very well... |
Subject: RE: BS: The Mudcat Prom From: Mbo Date: 26 Mar 00 - 01:03 PM Well Amos, I never had a prom 'cause I never went to high school, so... Place looks great, Caitrin! DJ? DJ?! We got ourselves a LIVE BAND! Midnight Blue is our name, and I'm lead male vocalist & guitar player (when I'm not dancing!). Ahh..good! A Night in Venice! Does my Italian soul good! Remind me to sing "Non Ti Scordar Di Me" later. Peter, shouldn't it be the Siddhartha Gautama room? It's more fun to say! Want some good music? Click here for the jukebox! Click C3, C5, or C6 on the juke pushbuttons for some good jivin' tunes! --Mbo |
Subject: RE: BS: The Mudcat Prom From: wysiwyg Date: 26 Mar 00 - 02:10 PM The Schmielzo Polka lessons will be available after the dinner interval, form Hardiman and Praise. (This is the ideal dance for people who have spent time or are considering sepnding time) in Peter's Bodhisattva Room but are ready for the next level-- as well as people who don't give a damn and just like to dance.) No experience, confidence, or dancing skill necessary! What's it all about? Just click right here to learn more! Then come back, and sign up! ~Susan~

Subject: RE: BS: The Mudcat Prom From: Linda Kelly Date: 26 Mar 00 - 02:18 PM Excuse me but the British contingent are feeling a little left out here -we don't have High School Proms -just a couple of verses of 'Jerusalem' and a quick snogging session behind the bike sheds if you were lucky! |
Subject: RE: BS: The Mudcat Prom From: Mbo Date: 26 Mar 00 - 02:19 PM HEY! I'm not going to be back till 7:30! Can you folks keep stuff on hold for me? I don't want to miss my first prom! --Mbo |
Subject: RE: BS: The Mudcat Prom From: Caitrin Date: 26 Mar 00 - 02:37 PM Sorry, Ickle...I'll fill you in on the whole "Prom" thing. As I'm sure you've gathered, it's a big dance. Only for seniors (and sometimes juniors) in high school. It's often over-hyped, and many people end up having a not-so-hot time. However, we're now getting a chance to have a Mudcat prom...better music, more fun people, better food, better decorations, and just in general more fun. Sorry, Mbo! I should've thought of that. Of course...live band! |
Subject: RE: BS: The Mudcat Prom From: Linda Kelly Date: 26 Mar 00 - 02:40 PM the jelly and blancmange are on me!!! |
Subject: RE: BS: The Mudcat Prom From: JenEllen Date: 26 Mar 00 - 02:48 PM Lovely Peter. Dancing from Orion and Casseopeia right down to the teensiest blade of grass. Wherever you go may there be music and light, and if you have to vomit, may there always be a friend to hold back your hair. When does Midnight Blue start to play...this I have to see. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Mudcat Prom From: Pinetop Slim Date: 26 Mar 00 - 03:06 PM Warning from the snack bar volunteers -- the principal just came along with a gallon Mason jar full of Ruby Slone's best corn squeezin's and ordered us to spike the big punch bowl. There's no alcohol in the smaller one, just kava kava. Now there's a slow dance on and the principal -- who is she, anyway? -- is out on the floor telling several couples to squeeze closer together. The band's got some weird instruments and on the last number had everybody doing a line dance they called "Flight of the Cosmic Hippo." Before that, they were doing the depka, a Syrian folk dance, to Havah Nagila and hundreds of people were snaking through the room waving handkerchiefs and squatting to kick on the fourth beat. And they tell me the prom queen will float in on a gargantuan guitar? What kind of place is this? |
Subject: RE: BS: The Mudcat Prom From: Amos Date: 26 Mar 00 - 04:38 PM Band starts blazing with sax and doowah vocals....
Chorus: Sorry, Amos, but I had to edit out your embedded MIDI because some people were complaining it was crashing their computers. It was really, cool, though. Embedded objects from other sites are not permitted in the Forum - they cause too many problems for too many people. If you use the <pre> command here, you still have to use line breaks. Nice try, though.... -Joe Offer- |
Subject: RE: BS: The Mudcat Prom From: Amos Date: 26 Mar 00 - 04:41 PM Okay, okay, okay! I'm Sooooreeeeee. The PRE tag didn't work and maybe you don't want virtual Fifities doowop in your threads. I am remiss, and I apologize! |
Subject: RE: BS: The Mudcat Prom From: JenEllen Date: 26 Mar 00 - 04:44 PM All is forgiven Amos. Can I steal you away from the bubble wrap gal for a twirl? |

Subject: RE: BS: The Mudcat Prom From: JenEllen Date: 26 Mar 00 - 05:30 PM Hey Amos, that's me. Cuter than a sack full o'puppies. And about as destructive too. Save the roll-overs for one more graceful. I'll take a slow twirl... but I hear that kat's a dream if you can steal her away from Spaw for a dance! I saw the band's trailer outside. This big Airstream with "Mudcat Suppository of Musical Knowledge" spray painted on the side. But where is the BAND???? |
