As an occasional Mudcat reader who enjoys unfriendly arguments at least as much as discussions of deceptive cadences in non-tonic keys, I feel that we should have threads dedicated to full frontal nastiness. Why should we have to waste time searching threads full of candy-assed apologies and hand holding limbless leper colonies to find your best insults? So here's a thread for your vile, vicious, negative, nasty thoughts. Go ahead. Take your best shot.

What a stupid idea, piss off asshole and start your lifelong search for grey matter less dense than the gravel that partially fills your cranial cavity at the moment.

Was that what you meant?

A nice story in today's paper might fit here (Oh, come on Roger, it's just an excuse to tell a non-music related joke!). A UK brickworks was downsizing and sacked a whole shift but insisted they make sure their last output of bricks met the usual high standards. They made some adjustments to the equipment and 60,000 bricks were produced bearing the word BOLLOCKS in large letters!
Is that vituperative enough?

A practical suggestion:

Bandwidth costs money (to Mudcat). If you wish to vent, at least send in a contribution to Max; that way you won't crowd out the information portion of this program. One dollar per venting should cover your two cents worth.

And here is how you can follow up on Dick's suggestion:

Click on the Mudcat Logo, above, where the fish is jumping out of the banjo, and you wil find:

"You may do so on our secure server here with Visa or MasterCard , or calling 610-738-9050, or send checks to The Digital Tradition, 28 Powell Street, Greenwich, CT 06831 or The Mudcat Cafe, 5 W. Gay St. Suite A, West Chester, PA 19380."

Just to make it easier for Mudcatters to remember, this handy dandy insult can be shortened to a simple POOH, WOB. Piece of obsolete hardware, waste of bandwidth. Easy to write in after a a useless post.

Wowbugger" - that sounds like a pretty effective bit of vituperation to me. "Up agiosnt the wall, wowbugger".

Anyway W'bugger - your post complainingabout the threads you don't like reminded of the fella who rang up to complain about the goings on on the beach next to the college on the other side of the river.

"Do you know that at six o'clock in the mornings there are young men out there swimming in the river - and they're stark naked!"

"Are you sure about that?"

"Of course I'm sure - I've seen it with my own eyes on numerous occcasions."

"But it's a mile away from where you live - how have you managed to see it."

"Young man, have you never heard of the telescope?"

McGrath

True, if my vituperation occured in a vacuum, then this accusation could be justly levelled at my post. However in this circumstance, wherein this thread (which by the way I did not start, please do not confuse me with others) was considered a waste of band width, your accusation lacks force. To use your analogy, thus;

"Do you know that at six o'clock in the mornings there are young men out there swimming in the river - and they're stark naked!"

"Are you sure about that?"

"Of course I'm sure - I've seen it with my own eyes on numerous occcasions, so why are you bugging ME about bathing nude at five in the morning?"

By the way please do not be offended McGrath that I did not aim a particularily vituperative remark to you personally. Its just that I'm only at "B" for "bandwidth wasters" and "bothersome pests" and I haven't got to "M" yet, give me another few million years.....

The gentleman, Dick Greenhaus, who suggested, sardonically, that one contribute to the Mudcat Cafe, when one starts and/or posts to a thread like this, deserves a hell of a lot more respect than he is getting for his suggestion. T'was he and his partner who compiled the original and continue to maintain and add to the more than 8,000 songs DigiTrad Database. And, he offers it all free of charge with no strings attached.

Last year when he heard that someone had downloaded all of his creation onto CD-ROM and was selling them, his only comment was something to the effect of it's there for anyone to do with what they want...we just want the songs to be available to anyone who would like to have them. Admirable and, as I said, deserving of our respect.

Max, who owns the Mudcat Cafe, houses the DigiTrad and also deserves our respect and contributions, as he has the same selfless altruism as Dick. I'd say they make a good pair and their hearts are in the right place.

Contributing, through the Shop & Auction or through the link I mentioned above, is just a good way of saying thanks and helping to keep both in running order.

Now that's a good idea of Dick's. So Wowbugger you owe him a few bucks.

Now McGrath, I'm letting you off the hook this time 'cos I've just heard that song you sent to Áine and thats gotta be worth a buck or two.

And Wowbugger, if you're good AND if you send in a song for us, we might let you off the hook too.

Wowbugger, me old mate - you'd have be a lot more vituperative than that before I'd be offended. (And that's not meant as a challenge or an invitation to anybody.)

But I think Dick has every right to indicate his view that the kind of stuff we had earlier in the thread is a waste of space.

This is the Mudcat Cafe, right? Over there in the corner there might be a bunch of people rattling on about stuff you find boring, but they find interesting. There's a difference between that and someone lurching around f'ing and blinding and throwing up on the counter. (And I don't mean Wowbugger, who is politely grumbling like we all do from time to time.)

As for catmoney: Maybe some places where a bunch of Mudcatters are in range of each other they could organise some kind of benefit events for the Cat? Could be fun as well.

Kat--

I agree, Dick's suggestion is a capital one. I know the page you quoted says, in addition, "Anyhow, I hate the idea of accepting donations. We can't afford to get our tax exempt status, therefore any donations are not tax-deductible. Plus, I am sure you have more important things to do with your money. We are not suffering here." But even given that, it's a good idea that we kick in the odd bit of gelt, regardless of whether we post bandwidth-wastage to BS threads or not, simply because between the 'Cat and the 'Trad, we've got a golden, precious resource here. I'm new to the Cafe, but I've been using DigiTrad for years.

Besides which, Dick's suggestion came right after my Monty Python quote, so being the insecure sod I am, I thought for a moment, "gees (we Minnesotans pronounce it with an 's' rather than a 'z'), maybe he specifically means me." So I figure I'm in for a buck already anyway.

Now, I don't know Dick well enough (or at all, really, me bein' new) to know if he was just being sarcastic, or if he really thinks that this random bit of fun and silliness is really an egregious load on his resources (in which case, mea culpa), but I think giving to the 'Cat is a good plan regardless. But...I don't really see where anyone on this thread has disrespected Dick in any way for making the suggestion. Wowbugger took the "bandwidth" thang and ran with it, but I saw his (her? its?) posts as playful rather than as any direct, or even oblique, flame of Dick. Frankly, the playful, teasing tone I so often see even in informational threads here is one of the things that has motivated me to start actively participating; this isn't just a strictly-business, "just the facts" informational resources, it's actually a community.

But I guess that's part of the problem with digital forums. Don't use smileys, and people don't know you're just funnin', use them and you look like a dork. :-)

And finally, since this is, after all, a vituperative BS thread, "I don't wanna talk to you no more, you empty-headed animal food trough wiper. I fart in your general direction. Your mother was a hampster, and your father smelt of eldeberries. Now go away before I taunt you a second time!"

[Imagine the above with a bad French accent. Directed not at Kat, but just a nod to the spirit of the thread. It's just another Python quote, in case anyone thinks I'm actually directing a flame at Kat.]

Oops, I guess that's now two bucks to me. Shoulda given up vituperting for Lent,

Chris (whose vituperation is plagiarized, but hey, if you're going to steal, steal from the best....)

Well, I'm not even going to get into what y'all do with sheep out there in our neighborly state to the West. 'Course my great-grandpappy was a west-river SoDak sheep rancher, so maybe I'd best step lightly there anyways.

And wow, I was only one state off, by sheer coincidence! I was going to use Michigan, but Montana seemed, Idaknow, more remote and desperate. Wyoming works even better, but as an expatriate Minnesota squarehead living in South Dakota, lands of two kooky governors, one who wears boas and one who...hoo, don't get me started, you bein' from Wyo probably know all about our guvner, I should talk....

I hereby concede the mastery to Kat. You're much more fun than I am. Pleasure to make yer acquaintance.
