Subject: RE: words please: the wind that blew the pump up From: alanww Date: 17 Sep 01 - 10:24 AM This reminds me of the words in the Bidford-on-Avon Mummers Play. At the end Trottin Jack says: In comes I, ole Trottin Jack, With me wife an' family on me back. Out of seven I've got eleven, And all the rest 'ave gone to 'eaven. The wind blowed the pump up An' the cat ran out o the ash hole. I too would be interested in this song and the others I mentioned in the thread: Mummers Songs "A possum sat on a simmon tree, a lookin' cunnin' down on me ...!"

Subject: RE: words please: the wind that blew the pump up From: Jim Dixon Date: 16 Sep 01 - 04:34 PM The only song about wind that I can think of is "The Great High Wind That Blew the Low Post Down," sometimes known as "The High Wind That Blew the Low Post Down." According to the Folk Index, it has been recorded by the Beers Family, Booger Hole Revival, Guy Carawan, Bruce Hutton, Metamora, Eileen Monger, and Eric & Martha Nagler. I don't have the lyrics but I think it's an American song. And it might have been a fiddle tune before someone put words to it. |
