Since we are having so much fun with the colloquialism thread, thought it might be fun to try something else. The growing custom of the female in a marriage of using a hyphenated last name instead of taking the males last name leads to all kinds of interesting possibilities.
In my school class, Ms. Linda Poore was an item with Mr. Richard House. If they would marry......
Any other ideas?

Look, I went to school with a girl named "Sharon Peters." Now ANYTHING beyond that would be overkill!

Around these parts the locals have decided to emulate their hyphenating yuppie neighbors. We now have names like Woodman-Woodman, Smith-Smith, etc.

I have a dentist who has encountered a serious(?) problem in this regard. In the seventies he and his wife agreed to use both last names and now have three chldren with last hyphenated last names the oldest girl is engaged and mom and dad want to be sure she knows that they're cool with whatever she and her intended decide. Peace, love and first names only... Bob

I was going to start using a hyphenated last name but I could never decide whether to go with Cl-Ark or Cla-Rk.

I know a couple that just combined their name rather than hyphenating and ended up as the "Joneswaddells". I'm not kidding.

So if my old school chum Martin Cake married a former work mate, Sue Baker, she'd be Sue Baker-Cake.....

Good game, cruel and unusual, but good.....

So what happens when two hyphenated folks want to marry, especially if they both strongly believe in hyphenating? Their great grandkids' names would reach to the moon and back.

The last names of three of the administrators at my high school are Grippa, Holden, and Peters, respectively. Think of the possibilities.

Peace--Bridget

An unfortunate practice is arising in Scotland for peaple surnamed Bell to call daughter Heather, suppose the think it's funny they don't have to live with it.

Well Rats, we're the Arnowitt-Reids, the Arnowitts for Michael's music career, the Reids when we order pizza, the whole shovel full when dealing with annoying telemarketers, and oh, you should see the misspellings on our fridge, Arnowellherd, Arnosevelt . . . We thought of being the Reidowitts, or the Arnoreids, but it just didn't seem right. Mostly we just use our own.

Michael swears he went to school with someone named Claire Annette Reid, and there is, of course the Ima Hogg piano competition in Texas. Then there's my cousin Candice (candy) married to Hamilton (Ham) nice combination, don't you think.

Curious that I still can recall clearly, but it was sixth grade. Her name was Candy Burger. She did a nice job of stealing my boyfriend away. Woe was me. Karma, perhaps. His name was John Cain. Ha! m
