I was apprised today of recent nasty posts, in the thread topics and enterprise threads, by someone using my name. At my request, those posts have been deleted. Had it not been for a friend, who knows me to be of better character than evidenced in those threads, I would not have known.

Even though the posts were not made by me, I must apologize for any hurt that may have resulted.

Last week I lost control at a flamer and he/she went gunning for me. This person knows me well enough to know that I don't venture into fantasy threads and that I'm rather fond of my guitar. I know who the individual is, but it's locked in the recesses of my mind. It will eventually surface and I will nail the person ... moonchild

Moonchild, huh? I'm not too sure. Now that she gave up her membership and had it removed, doesn't that mean anyone can sign up as Moonchild?

Moonchild, e-mail me and let me know if its you.

Love, annap

Hi - I checked registration, and I'm quite sure this is Moonchild's real self. Contacting her by personal message should not be a problem.
You may want to be careful about changing your Mudcat name, once people get to know you by that name. Once you change your name, anybody can use the name you used to use. If you do have an identity or membership or impersonation problem, please contact Max or me.

Talk about over reacting to a couple of rather humorous thread messages...and then scurrying to the censors to delete them.

The only person who might have been mildly offended was The Shambles, who can take it anyway, (and who from here on in will be known by us, as The Shingles, since this is a name much more in keeping with his cyber persona and the ensuing effects of such exposure to his postings.)

Lighten up Moon-Unit.

Obnoxious stuff, and I will never give up my name--is there a difference between moonchild and Moonchild? I havn't been involved in this and did not know there was a problem, but usurping an identity is the lowest form of life imaginiable.............

[exasperated sigh]

Moonchild and moonchild should be the same person, although we can't vouch for the identity of anybody posting as GUEST.

I don't mind humor, but taking over another person's identity is nothing to joke around about.

moonchild, thanks for the tip-off. No, I didn't see those posts, but I'll keep it in mind in case I go through those threads in the future.

One solution if that happens again and more often would be to ask any person wanting to post as 'GUEST, mudcatter's name' for the password to use that name. However, even that wouldn't be perfect. For example, the person posting as 'GUEST,Sorcha' above in that case could have posted as 'GUEST, S0rcha' and with the size of the second character adjusted it would look quite convincing, for there are only minor differences between an 'oh' and a 'zero'. Best perhaps is to hope that this nastiness dies out.

Wolfgang
