Subject: Kit Kat UK vs US From: Rob the Ranter Date: 30 Apr 00 - 03:33 AM Has any one besides me compaired British and American Kit Kat's. the package differences are obvious but Nestle Makes the Bitish Version whereas Hersheys makes the American. The American ones taste somewhat waxy compared to their British counterparts and I find the caramel flavour far more pronounced in the latter. Also the the centre waffer has a more substantial texture in the British version. Has any one else made these observa |

Subject: RE: BS: Kit Kat UK vs US From: Noreen Date: 30 Apr 00 - 06:37 PM Yes, Rowntree's who made KitKat were taken over, unfortunately, by the multinational concern Nestle a few years ago. It is difficult to find any manufactured food in our supermarkets now which does *not* have the Nestle logo. |

Subject: RE: BS: Kit Kat UK vs US From: Rob the Ranter Date: 01 May 00 - 02:01 AM Sorry I know this has absolutly nothing to do with music I was just overcome with thoughts food after reading the lengthy thread on Marmite. I work for a winery and have worked in kitchens as a cook so I am way to concerned with concerns of the palate for my own good. I promise to be a more Conscientious "Threaddie" in the future and stick to apropriate topics. Heggie |

Subject: RE: BS: Kit Kat UK vs US From: Helen Date: 01 May 00 - 08:51 AM Nah, Heggie, if they don't want to read BS they don't have to open the thread up. Talk away. Have a look at the Lapsang Souchong thread about tea drinking for another food thread. Then there was the Tim Tam (Australian chocolate biscuit) thread. We also had the corn dodger(?) thread, the Mudcat recipe book thread ..... the list goes on and on. Kit Kats in Australia used to be made by Rowntree and are probably made by Nestle now, so they probably taste much the same as the UK version. Cadbury's chocolates have recently launched a competitor product called Breakaway here - very nice, but still too sweet for my taste. Helen |

Subject: RE: BS: Kit Kat UK vs US From: Liz the Squeak Date: 02 May 00 - 10:29 AM Hey beanster, there was a trial a few months back where they produced a dark chocolate version, and it vanished from the shelves like it was gold plated!!! Was absolutely fantastic, but still don't remember any caramel......? LTS |
