Hi, Alison JC's tune finder has a "Zigeuner Polka. could that be it? (note the spelling of "Zigeuner," the German word for "Gypsy."). Wish I could help more, but I can't find it.

Thanks JOe, but that's not it.. the one I am looking for is in a minor key and sounds Russian / Klezmer......

Sorry, Alison, another "no hit" even when I spelled also the second word in German , i.e. 'Karawane".

Hey, don't think we should give up on this one. Maybe it's Yiddish, not German. Anybody know the Yiddish word for "gypsy"? It's probably similar to the German "Zigeuner," but may be spelled differently.

More likely 'Tsigayner' or 'Tsiganer' or 'Tsigeiner'. There's a lot of variation in Yiddish orthography, I believe even in the source Hebrew script (though I can't read it so can't be definite). Z in Yiddish is nearly always as in 'buzz', not a 'ts' sound.
