Subject: The Last of the Great Whales From: jmcgann@ultranet.com (Cliff McGann) Date: 04 Jul 97 - 11:12 PM I learned this song a couple of years back and now I can't find the words. It was recorded by Scotsman Stephen Quigg (?) who plays regularly with The McCalmans as well as by Wolfstone. If anyone has the lyrics I would be grateful. E-Mail me directly @ jmcgann@ultranet.com Thanks, Cliff McGann PS: I have a large store of Scot's Gaelic Songs if anyone is looking for some Gaelic songs. |

Subject: RE: The Last of the Great Whales From: Tim Jaques tjaques@netcom.ca Date: 11 Jul 97 - 05:00 PM I've always known it as The Last Leviathan, and liked the version Archie Fisher did on his live album with Garnett Rogers, brother of the late great Stan. If I can find the tape I'll sit and listen for you. |

Subject: RE: The Last of the Great Whales From: GUEST,michael batory Date: 06 Oct 00 - 07:43 AM Hello all correspondents, Please check the Last Leviathan thread for my credentials if you are wondering why I'm making this contribution. Replies to: 1. jmcgann@ultranet.com. Hello cliff, the lyrics that joe offer posted on the last leviathan thread are ok but please note on my contribution to that thread, the missing verse. 2. moira cameron: The original title was The Last of the Great Whales and was written by Andy Barnes in 1983. I'd be delighted to hear from anyone regarding performances, recordings, with names, dates and labels etc. I can be reached on michael.batory@bcuc.ac.uk All the best. Michael Batory |

Subject: RE: The Last of the Great Whales From: Fedele Date: 07 Oct 00 - 09:47 AM Funny. I was about to post the lyrics when I found this thread. I'll just tell you that the song is also performed by Cor Cochion Caerdydd - Cardiff Reds Choir; they have a site but I don't remember the address now - just go to www.billybragg.co.uk and get the link there. It gets confusing if one discussion is split into two threads. Andy Barnes originally called his song "The Last of the Great Whales," but it is now generally known as "The Last Leviathan." There's another, longer thread on that topic that is currently active. To avoid confusion, Please Continue This Discussion Here (click)Thanks.-Joe Offer- |
