Can anyone tell me if there are books which give the guitar chords for Redemption or Sankey hymns? I have tried locally but can only find staff or solfa neither of which my friend can use, he would include some of my favourites if we could get a book with chords.

I have some of these in a set I got off the rack at the local Christian bookstore, called the Country & Western Gospel Hymnals. This wonderful and BADLY mistitled collection (4 or 5 volumes) has lots of old-time and southern gospel hymns, with 4-part harmonies and chords included. These have audio tapes-- not every tune is included but some that you want may be.

There are also some Sankey pieces in the Gaither Homecoming series songbooks (also 4 or 5 volumes). The Gaither people also have other sets of songbooks, but I do not know if chords are included. The Homecoming stuff (videos, CD/tapes) are LOADED with thre old stuff.

Now Alfred Brumley stuff, including Brumley arragements of Sankey et al, are in a set of little Brumley books I have.

Then there is a Hal Leonard Paperback Hymnal that, as I recall, includes Sankey and Fanny Crosby and all sorts of old greats.

Please let me know if more info is needed and I will try to supply it. My resources are all at home, and I'se at work, so please let me know what you need specifically and I will lug it into work to help if I can!

Wonderful stuff. What are you planning on doing with it? We use it in our Saturday night service, Episcopal church, very laid back service. And in our song circles.

~Susan

You can also find some chords for hymns on-line at sites like:

http://www.fortunecity.com/tinpan/oldsquire/285/ccm/hymns.htm

http://www.wcnet.org/~rgharms/chords.htm

http://graphics.stanford.edu/~mwang/lyrics/worship/xnmusic-1.13.txt

If those don't help, please post some titles that we can search.

Thanks that's a great help. I will pass these on to Dade who will then have no excuse for not playing "Proper Hymns" Tongue in cheek haven't learned all those shorthand thingies yet.
