I'm trying to find the name of the singer and the proper title of a song popular in the sixties or so. I believe the title was El Es Tu. The song was sung in Spanish by a female singer. Been trying to track this one. Thanks in advance

Jim, the song is called "Eres Tu" and was sung by the group Mocedades and released in the US in 1974. You can get the lyrics here. I have the song on a 45, with the Espanol version on side A and the English version on the flip side.

Gotta keep up the legend, Mbo.

I'd say this is a song I used to hear very often, but rarely heard from beginning to end. It belongs on the list of songs DJ's used to end their programs, fading out when it was time for the next shift to start work. Might be interesting to compile a list of those songs. Lots of songs by the Ventures, and "The Lonely Bull," for sure...

Joe does seem to be stuck at the 4 minute mark for the moment. I wonder what his problem is? If he hadn't done the Roger Bannister earlier, I would say he is fast, but there is a slackening off. Maybe he is getting a life in that extra minute or two....Put them together, save a minute or two here and there, and after 20 years, you might get a whole day of a real life saved up. Makes you think.

Well, Peter, I'm retired now, at the ripe old age of 51, and I've decided to take life a little slower, to stop and smell the roses, or listen to the polkas, or whatever. And speaking of polkas, I found this (click) on my leisurely travels, and I'd like you all to take a listen to the RealAudio recordings. "No Beer Today" is a real classic. I may have to buy the CD.

I believe Joe didn't explain himself as clearly as he might. With retirement, he no longer has work he should be doing that drives him to escape into the Mudcat every minute or so.

You're both wrong. After having wisely decided that both Jeri's record of a two minutes delay response with a link and Bert's record of a zero minutes delay response without a link are unbeatable (Ed's four minutes for complete lyrics with line breaks are also not bad but perhaps beatable), Joe goes for the remaining records. And what you have seen here, is the fastest two links response ever (yet!).

Tish Hinojosa does a lovely version of Eres Tu on her "Best of the Sandia;'91-'92" cd. Thanks for the lyrics, I've been looking for them (in Spanish) for a while.

Yes, Wolfgang, but apart from being the fastest two link, is it the fastest in general about a song in a foreign language? That must count for something. And what of songs before 1900 -- surely that must have a category of its own? I can see that the Olympic committee is going to have its work cut out for it, if it ever stops taking bribes long enough.

thanks, Peter, for all those splendid ideas. I need them, for my personal favourite category of Mudcat records, namely 'leader in multiple posting' (of the same post, I mean, and in a single thread) makes no sense any longer thanks to interference from Joe. Whenever he spots one of my prime examples (e.g., in the 'rindacellar' thread) he eliminates them remorselessly.

Actually, I have a theory ~~ do you suppose Joe is stockpiling responses for songs in the spare time that he has nowadays, just waiting for someone to ask for one of them? Yes, I can see it now ~~ there he sits, hunched over the keyboard at all hours, with his song list all categorized and bookmarked, cruising up and down Mudcat Street ready to pounce on one of the songs from his ever growing store of pre-prepared knowledge . . .

Of fade-in, fade-out tunes: surely Paul Winter's "Icarus" must hold some sort of record (snicker) for this sort of use. The Ventures' song "Out Of Limits" was popular for this , too; it was the 45 B-side of their cover of "Telstar", and was as close to the TV show theme as the title was to the show.Johnny and the Hurricanes' "Red River Rock" was big for this, too, maybe because of copyright matters. Once I was stuck on a Greyhound for four beautiful hours with someone who posessed a baby phonograph and the 45 of "Eres Tu". I now class it with "99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall".Cultural context, hey? (Or is that "the folk process"?)
