I hope it's not too presumptuous of me to start a thread like this, being so new to the Mudcat and all, but I was wondering.

This site means a lot to me, as I'm sure it does for most of the people who use it. I understand that there are people who send in money from time to time, or maybe even frequently, and that there are other sources of money to help support the Mudcat.

It just seems like maybe what happened yesterday means that it's not enough. I'm going to send in what I can, when I can, but I'm sure it's going to be a tiny drop in the bucket compared to what's needed.

I was wondering what would happen if everybody who uses the mudcat sent in even just five or ten dollars - right now. Maybe that would equal a lot of money.

I hope this is taken in the spirit in which it is sent - with my humble gratitude.

If you go to Quick Links, click on Contact Us, and click on Go ... it will take you to a page that gives you several options, one of which, is to make a Financial Donation.

Actually, if you go up to the top of this page and click on the picture of the fish jumping out of the banjo, you'll find many ways to support Mudcat - places where you can buy stuff so Mudcat gets a percentage, a link to a secure server for credit card donations, and an address to send checks.

After listening to half the Hear Me last night and enjoying every second (between disconnects) I would like to help fund this place if need be. Could Max let us know how much he estimates the mudcat costs to run (each month say) and how much shortfall if any there is. Then we could pitch in when needed and at the same time no one would feel obliged to contribute all the time

Which thread the other day explained Max's computer setup for Mudcat?
Until then I had only heard mention of the mythical Max and thought he could only be contacted by desk comlink like Charlie in Charlie's Angels!

So its Click the 'Support The Mudcat' box and on the next page scroll down to the blue link 'secure server here..'
Mastercard or Visa in hand and fill in the details
The amount will be in US dollars when you get a statement so if you are in the UK the amount will be less than it seemed due to the current exchange rate

Of course the other way to support the Mudcat if you haven't any spare cash (or a visa card) is to take part
Ask some questions submit some answers or have a chat
Mainly have some fun

Because Max may just dislike those banner thingies as much as we do? Also, I believe advertising may void the "not-for-profit" status of Mudcat.

Bill Sables (User name = bill\sables) in the UK has T-shirts, I believe. I don't think they make Mudcat a lot of money, but they help.

Unfortunately I can't donate by credit card as I am not a member and as I access this site from work joining is out. International money orders, aren't they a bit expensive? Just remembered something, a friend of mine's wife has a U.S. bank account I'll ask her to write a cheque, she can only say no. But I can't see someone who makes the best blueberry muffins in Wales turning me down. Who should cheques be made payable to? Mudcat Cafe? Digital Tradition? Now whats the current exchange rate? Last I knew (which was June) it was 1 pound=$1.47 or so. But it was sliding then. I just checked, and it's $1.49.

The Mudcat Cafe does have bills, yes. However, the point of the Mudcat is preserve and appreciate Traditional Music. You people are members of this organization just like me. This means you too have a responsibility. Folk Music is Local, Folk Music is Global. We must remember that for something to exist, we need to support it. That means we should buy folk albums, that means we should go to festivals and have and attend gatherings. If a Mudcatter, friend or associate has a gig, we make every effort to attend. If your community has open mic nights, even if it's all rock and roll kids, you must go and endure the experience and potential rejection and certain ignorance, you have to Sing Out.

Boy, that was sappy.

Oh, and I consider The Mudcat a work of Art. Banner ads can not be a part of my work of Art. There is nothing beautiful about banner ads.

Obviously Max, you've never cashed a whopping great check from the add hits on a web page... Banner adds can be hidden in a small pop up window that loads itself in the background even... You may not like them, but you can't deny that they work...
