I just caught the bit of a spot on this band on CBS. OK all you Toronto 'Catters, what's up with these guys. Four street musicians putting out indy releases that go gold (Canadian currency?) with songs about a fish who robs people. They sounded great from the other room, but I didn't get a chance to really hear them "up close." Is this a band I should be checking out?

HEY! Turn off the computer and watch CBS! Don't you want to hear about Dominic La Piere?

Moxy Fruvous is a wonderful band!! I've had their original 5 song indy tape in the car for years!! Anything by them is great.. sorta quirky jazzy, kinda Arrogent Worms meet the Shuffle Demons... With a little Captain Tractor tnrown in for good measure...

Fun music!

They are truly bizarre and quite fun to watch. I was sorry I didn't get to hear them sing "The Tents are Coming" at Falconridge this year.

I saw Moxie Fruvous at the Mariposa Folk Festival in Orillia this summer and they were great! Very funny and original. See them if you get the chance. I don't doubt that Toronto is sick of them by now. I am sick of Toronto, having lived there for 15 years. I escaped in 1985 (thank God).

I remember seeing them years ago at Womad in Reading. They were great fun. Quite similar to the Bare Naked Ladies at the time though.

I don't keep up with a lot of popular stuff, but golly, I saw the Bare Naked Ladies on Jay Leno one night and I kinda liked em. "Moxie Fruvous" does sound like it's from Jabberwocky or something like that...

Now, bob jr, if you wanta talk about getting sick of bands, come down to Tennessee and get sick of Skynyrd for awhile. They been dead for years and we still can't get em off the radio.

Hey, BNL is cool! I'm not sure about Moxie though...Max played them once on Mudcat Radio...sounded a lot like the Backstreet Boys with a banjo.

And Bobby J, I think you'd have less room to complain about everything on the radio if you STOPPED LISTENING TO IT. I stopped listening to the radio a year ago, and I don't know any of the popular stuff anymore. And don't give me that line about "it's everywhere you go." I am a college student, and hang around campus sometimes 15 hours a day, and BELIEVE me, it's NOT "everywhere."

And if it's that offensive to you, you can always employ a useful little thing humans are capable of, called "ignore it." I ignore the booming rap that emanates from most cars around here, but you don't see me knocking it.

Hey, BNL even has some wisdom for folksingers! "It's all been done/it's all been done/it's all been done before!"

bob jr. is welcome to his opinion... dead wrong though it is. I'm glad Toronto spawned this band. These guys are fun, talented, innovative, really far out there. They have a following that spans a remarkable swath. I've seen old fogies, teens, old folkies, rockers and goths all having a great time at their shows. They are my band's favourite pop band.

They are very talented, and a lot of fun to see live, as are, the Barenaked Ladies and the Arrogant Worms. But in my opinion, they are only meant to be seen live. I would sooner wipe my arse with nettles than own one of their CD's.

Paul.

The way I heard the story, Moxie Fruvous was the real name of the mother of one of the band members' best friends. They reminded me of the Chitons and the Bobs, who sang at many of the post-dinosaur hunt parties.

Paul S, I agree, they're great to see live, but I wouldn't buy their CD either. I have a friend who insists on playing the Arrogant Worms CD all the time, and it's driving everyone nuts. He's the guy who plays the didgeridoo all the time and drives everyone nuts with that too. We are planning to ship it to Bill Clinton for use in the oral office.

Bob Jr...I don't think you know Orillia...or the great acoustic folk music scene we have here, including the Mariposa Folk Festival which started here and has returned this year, probably to stay for good.

Oh, and all of central Ontario is chock full of people who are thanking God they're no longer in Toronto. Just ask 'em. I loved Toronto when I was in my twenties, but it has gone way downhill since then. It's still, of course, a great place for restaurants, live music, movies, and so on...a good place to spend money. And it has some nice neighborhoods. And it has the 12th Fret. Still, Orillia is a paradise in comparison to any big city that I know of.

Where are you living now? You left "Ontartio" you say? Where is Ontartio? Haven't heard of it.

Oh yeah, I don't live in "orilla", I live in Orillia. Orilla may be an armpit for all I know...

Have another beer, ya flippin' hoser!
