I'm just invading Death by Whisky's space, as I'm his wife and just wondered if anyone has any interesting ideas for curing the birthday blues and livening up a folkies day??No more instruments - caravan space limited to kids and large dog, instruments already have more than their fair share of our space. So until Ray,s finished building a house, small ideas preferred . Thanks mudcatters. Bec.

Well I just ordered a fifth string capo for my husband's birthday. It'll be late as its his birthday today and the capo won't be in the store till friday at the earliest. Any small adjustment or accessory needed on any of the instruments? A good music book that he wouldn't think to buy himself? Does he have any other hobbies or interests? How about a small intimate dinner for two, I mean you and him not him and an instrument.

My nieces and nephews gave their dad a book of coupons good for a variety of things - mowing lawn, taking out trash, two hours of uninterrupted TV of his choice. Throw in a back rub and a birthday cake and you have a gift with minimal space.

Hi Bec, thanks for visiting Mudcat.

Yeah that back rub should do it. Along with a bottle of Jim Bean of course.

And DbW, we love you guy! Happy, happy, happy from us here at Mudcat Radio.

Bert

We do theme cakes for b'days. Should've seen our banjo player when i made him a pony sized banjo cake. Was priceless. Anyway, musicians are the easiest people in the world to get little things for. You never have enough: Strings, picks, batteries for the tuner, straps, dulcimer hammers, string shine, i could go on and on and on. And it would appear that i have done so! And of course, having the gang over to jam, with a bluegrass rendition of Happy b'day to you, is most effective.

A surprise party. No presents, just people and music and food. I got one for my 40th (sans music---but that was OK), and I didn't know I had that many friends! It still makes me feel good 5 years later.

Bec; Go to Aines songbook and find the parody i submitted months ago the birthday song sung to the tune of Silver threads among the gold. Sing that for him if that doesn't work, then give him all of the above with a good bottle of Jamieson's Irish whiskey. Or you could quote redneck Darth Vader "Shoot, Y'all come on over t' the dark side Luke! It'll be a hoot!" Kindest Reguards and happy birthday Death by Whiskey! Neil
