As you can see the PRE command works, I tried it in the first line of the above message. But I also entered it as two lines, so only the spaces are obeyed, not the CR's.

Sorcha - that was great, again! Thanks so much !

I couldn't find any PRE command in the source of your message, maybe it was stripped. You certainly know that the messages are edited before they appear here (e.g. a P command is inserted for every two consecutive CR's.)

Please also mind that the messages are displayed in Times Roman (proportional font) while we enter them in Courier (even spaced), so I'm afraid the chords won't appear where you expect them to even if the PRE command works.

Hug.

Joerg

Subject: Lyr Add: WHISPERING JESSE (John Denver)
From: Sorcha

Well, tht didn't work, maybe this will........

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

WHISPERING JESSE
Words and Music by John Denver
from Higher Ground (1988)

I often have wandered in deep contemplation
It seems that the mind runs wild when you're all alone
the way that it could be, the ways that it should be

things I'do differently if I could do them again

I've always loved spring time, the passing of winter
The green of the new leaves, the life goin' on
The promise of morning, the long days of summer
Warm nights of lo-ving her beneath the bright stars

I'm just an old cowboy from high Colorado
too old to ri---de anymore, to blind to see
I sleep in the city now, away from my mountains
away from the cab-in we always called home

I dream I left there on an old palomino
whispering Jesse rode right by my side
I long to hold her, to hear her soft breathing
the touch of her cool hands on my fevered brow

Wispering Jesse still rides in the mountains
still sings in the canyons
still lives in my heart

Well, that was a pain in the you know what, but Joerg has his words. The clickie site is a real mess with banner ads and frames, and scroll down click here stuff, but if Joerg is diligent, he can find the lyrics and chords.

Obviously, someone intelligent is going to have to walk me thru the PRE command, it did not do what I thought it was going to............(sorry, Joerg)

Joerg, I know exactly what you mean, and it is a very important thing. I am off on a search for lyrics to "Whispering Jesse"...and, a few minutes later, here they are:
OK, I'm going to try the pre format HTML command here, don't blame me if it doesn't work...at least you have the lyrics...

I hope this worked, I don't really understand the pre command...I guess I will find out...

HTML line breaks added. Even if you use preformat commands, you still have to add line breaks.--JoeClone, 26-Sep-02.

One of the sadest facts I believe to know: There are many things that would cheer us up if we only were able to remember them. The reason for not remembering them is that they didn't seem important at the very moment we experienced them, and so they were forgot.

But later when something reminds you of that experience you may get some very (what was the word I recently learned from you?) wistful (!) feeling. Also some sad feeling, because you think that if there were more things like these you remembered (or were reminded of) you would be a whole lot more cheerful in general.

Do you know what I mean?

One example for things like these are songs. And one example for songs like these is 'Whispering Jesse' once done (also written?) by John Denver, God rest his soul. Does anybody know the lyrics? The tune 'still sounds in my ear'. I did a forum search for 'whispering jesse', and the only result was this (hoping the clicky works). Is that song completely forgotten? (Buck also mentioned Gilette's 'Darcy Farrow' there: Is that similar? ... What?? ... Where??? ... *drooling* ...)

When I think of 'Whispering Jesse' I am also reminded of a song I once (ONCE!) heard him perform, a song with the passage "don't close your eyes tonight". It was at a short appearance in german TV; they had him do this one single song, those barbarians. And I never heard this song again, I only remember that the tune was great (of course no chance to memorize it) - barbarians everywhere.

Is there any non-barbarian who can help me?

Love in advance

Joerg
