We were kept up to date on the Colorado fires and the Iceland earthquakes. Any word from Alice on the Montana fires? According to the news, the whole state is being declared a disaster area.

Well, about a fifth of the state is burning, but it's a big state. What's burning is about the size of Maine.

Also remember we have fewer people in the whole state than in the city of Chicago - about 850,000. The fires aren't what's bad here in the capitol city of Helena, its the bleepin' smoke. Visibility is about 3/4 of a mile and we've had one clear day in the past month !!

I try not to play smoky bars, but this has set me back ten years. Talk about your second hand smoke. Who can I sue ?!?

Here are sites we follow for updates.

The National Interagency Fire Center shows who's working where and estimates current burn area. www.nifc.gov

The USDA Forest Service will tell you what's up on Federal land in pretty fine detail. You can specify an area of interest. www.fs.fed.us/fire/reports

If you're interested in California you can look at California Division of Forestry and Department of Fire Protection (I think that's their current name, they are always CDF to us) for what's up in the Golden State. www.fire.ca.gov

Yeah, my gramma is visiting some relatives in Plains and she has to stay inside most of the time because of the smoke....her asthma is real bad.
