Subject: My Bonny Irish Soldier From: GUEST,BMacLiam@aol.com Date: 28 Aug 00 - 11:04 PM My wife is looking for the lyrics to a tune called "My Bonny Irish Soldier" (although I can't say that it rings a bell with me). Can anyone help? Please email me directly at BMacLiam@aol.com Standard e-mail sent: Hi - you'll find there have been several responses to your request at the Mudcat Cafe. You might also try searching simultaneously on 'Irish' and 'Soldier' on the Bodley Ballads website (Mudcat's Links). Several different songs show up. |

Subject: Lyr Add: THE DEAR IRISH BOY ^^ From: Jimmy C Date: 30 Aug 00 - 12:12 AM Besides the Irish Soldier Laddie and The Irish Soldier Boy mentioned above by George Seto, I know of no other song except this one titled " The Dear Irish Boy" about a lad going off to war. I will post it although I don't think it's the one you are after.
THE DEAR IRISH BOY
My Connor, his cheeks are as ruddy as morning
CHORUS
Smiling, beguiling, cheering, endearing
No roebuck more swift could fly o'er the mountain
Chorus
The soft tuned lark, his notes change to mourning,
Chorus
The war being over and he not returned, Hope you like this one anyway. Slainte ^^ |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: My Bonny Irish Soldier From: Airto Date: 30 Aug 00 - 06:19 AM It's not Mary and the Soldier, which is in the Mudcat database, by any chance? The version there is taken from Paul Brady and Andy Irvine. It is easy to imagine lines like "my true and gallant soldier" being changed to "my bonny Irish soldier". |
