Subject: RE: Do 'tits book bands'? From: GUEST Date: 05 Sep 00 - 09:19 PM What's your problem, Bill D? I clearly said that the link was for Mbo, and only for Mbo. Since your name is not Mbo, you were just sticking your mouse where it does not belong. Is there something about the phrase "Mbo only may click here" that you did not understand? |

"...yep...WHY is that phrase out where everyone can see it? Mr. Guest...you know very well what a link like that does. Like "Do not post to this thread"...... my problem? Bad taste and bad judgement displayed all to often in here. You want Mbo to see that picture?...use YOUR name and send him a PM..... (don't usually get this riled...but DAMN!)

Subject: RE: Do 'tits book bands'? From: CarolC Date: 05 Sep 00 - 09:44 PM I'm not a professional performer, but my experience in life has been that while the "tits factor" may open certain kinds of doors for you, it can make it very difficult to be taken seriously. I'll never forget the time my son was marching as a Cub Scout in a Memorial Day parade, and an antique car full of antique veterans started hooting and shouting suggestive remarks at me while I was standing by the side of the road, watching the parade. My son was there, for Pete's sake. And I wasn't dressed suggestively at all. Women tend to take you less seriously as well. Carol |
Subject: RE: Do 'tits book bands'? From: Escamillo Date: 05 Sep 00 - 11:49 PM I'm fed up with people who doesn't care about the quality of my art, and keep calling me just for my sex-appeal. Andrés - (oh, please Wyo, Carol, Kat, don't spray out your salad all over the keyboard)

Subject: RE: Do 'tits book bands'? From: Marion Date: 06 Sep 00 - 04:02 PM Hey Guinnesschik, you should ask your singer if she gets more tips on the fertile days of her cycle. Apparently there's been a study showing that waitresses get more tips when they're fertile - something about the pheromones that accompany ovulation. Here in Cape Breton, there are many accomplished traditional fiddlers, and fiddle connoisseurs have a variety of favourite performers. But there are two who really stand as having achieved mass popularity: Natalie McMaster, who is young, beautiful, and female, and Ashley MacIsaac, who is young and has established a "badass" image. Now it's possible that these two also happen to be the best two fiddlers on Cape Breton - I'm not enough of a connoisseur to tell the difference between a good fiddler and a great one. But I have a feeling that the vast majority of their fan base aren't connoisseurs either, and wouldn't be able to recognize Natalie's or Ashley's playing by the sound alone. Marion |

Subject: RE: Do 'tits book bands'? From: guinnesschik Date: 07 Sep 00 - 08:32 AM Marion: I really don't know about our singer, but as fiddler and singer, I give a kick-ass performance on such days. If I'm not performing, life just seems to be a bit easier at that time. However that should really be a seperate thread. However, her "girls" always look cute and young, and there's always a fair share of leches in the audience. I'm currently writing a parody of "Dirty Old Town." Gonna call it "Dirty Old Men." |

Subject: RE: Do 'tits book bands'? From: Naemanson Date: 07 Sep 00 - 09:44 AM I'd like to think I wouldn't book an act based on looks. I'm certain I haven't made any choices along those lines yet but being a guy and knowing my weaknesses I'd hate to be put on the spot. If you look at the entertainment industry as a whole it's easy to see that sexy looks will prevail. Our little corner of the entertainment world cannot be totally immune. But I like to think our corner is more enlightened and that when the choice comes along we are at least able to question our choices and make the right ones sometimes. |
Subject: RE: Do 'tits book bands'? From: Lena Date: 07 Sep 00 - 08:22 PM Oh,look sells.I have a couple of examples, but it's a personal opinion and some mudcatters love the gals I would quotate...Look does sell.how many performers change their shirt before coming on stage?!But we should make a distinction between clothing/tits and real glamour. Now,glamour sells .Not sex.Sex doesn't charm as much as a glamourous female performer. And male performers as well....Although I must say that if I see a folk musician jump up on stage wrapped in a particular fashon I scratch my head and think...so what, mate?! |
Subject: RE: Do 'tits book bands'? From: GUEST,blind desert pete Date: 12 Sep 00 - 02:23 PM If madonna looked like say mamma cass she would starve waiting tables. |
Subject: RE: Do 'tits book bands'? From: Steve Latimer Date: 12 Sep 00 - 02:57 PM Blind Desert Pete, unfortunately you've come up with the best example of yes they do. How a no talent tramp like Madonna can appeal to anyone on a musical level is beyond me, and probably beyond her, but she knew that if she did a strip show and sang at the same time it would sell. The only thing missing from her stage show is the metal pole. |

Subject: RE: Do 'tits book bands'? From: mousethief Date: 12 Sep 00 - 04:54 PM Here's my take. Tits don't book bands, club managers book bands. Club managers book bands in order to get people to come to the club, pay the cover charge, and buy food/drinks. Thus, club managers will book whatever band they think will attract an audience. If they think tits will attract an audience at their club, they will book tits. If they think ugly people doing fabulous music will attract an audience at their club, they will book ugly people doing fabulous music. And so forth. It's really a measure of what the club managers think their potential patrons want to see/hear. How to change it? Easy. Go to lots of shows with good music. Refuse to go to shows where the music is lousy but the singer is shapely. Club managers, being business people, will book what sells.

Subject: RE: Do 'tits book bands'? From: Little Hawk Date: 13 Sep 00 - 04:54 PM Naw...police book bands. Like the time Jim Morrison exposed himself to a large audience and got arrested for it. "Book 'em, Dan-o!" That's what the top cop said. |
Subject: RE: Do 'tits book bands'? From: GUEST,Curtis & Loretta Date: 13 Sep 00 - 10:33 PM Absolutely, looks book bands in the mainstream music world (pop, rock, etc), especially in the big-time entertainment business, where dollars are much more important than the music. But in our wonderful, real world of folk, Celtic, old-time, etc., looks don't mean much. Folk musicians are real people and they look like real people, not like "made-up", created for a target audience, plastic people. We're always swimming upstream. I love it. Loretta Simonet |
Subject: RE: Do 'tits book bands'? From: sledge Date: 14 Sep 00 - 02:53 AM Looks must help at some point, case in point, the Corrs. Tits I dont think influence people that much, case in point, the Corrs, those girls are so flat they are almost inverted. I am not just saying that, I have looked long and hard at many photos of them, I will continue to do so just in case I got it wrong. Sledge(who has been away from home for too long) |
Subject: RE: Do 'tits book bands'? From: Mbo Date: 14 Sep 00 - 09:46 AM Sledge--YEAH YEAH! Did I ever mention that their song "Closer" was the reason I wanted to write my own music. I wrote my first song about a week later. |
Subject: RE: Do 'tits book bands'? From: GospelPicker (inactive) Date: 14 Sep 00 - 03:54 PM There's a few things I find reassuring... Scruggs has a big gap in his teeth ala Letterman. Dylan has a big nose that his voice goes through. Woody Guthrie was known to not bathe sometimes for quite a while on end. do t*ts book bands? who cares when your idea of talent has much more to do with what comes out of your heart than out of your bra? Subject: RE: Do 'tits book bands'? From: GUEST,cynical realist Date: 14 Sep 00 - 04:48 PM Just a reality check here - good looks are an advantage in ALL lines of endeavor, not just music. Sad but true, hardwired into our primitive brains, affected by advertising, but still something we all deal with. |
