Subject: RE: Do 'tits book bands'? From: guinnesschik Date: 05 Sep 00 - 08:25 AM Dunno 'bout the question of do "tits book bands", but I know they're good for collecting money in the tip jar! We openly exploit our busty singer (since she doesn't play an instrument) and send her around with the tip jar as the rest of us rip into a jig or reel. Works for us! ;-) |
Subject: RE: Do 'tits book bands'? From: GUEST,Hoot & Fidget Date: 05 Sep 00 - 07:20 AM This thread seems to be about 2 related, but different subjects. Does sexuality book bands (Britney, Spice Girls) and does appearence, in general book bands, (Merv Griffin, Miles Davis).
IMHO I'd have to say that sexuality does play more of role than simple appearence. Whether it actually gets you in the door or keeps you out is another issue. I know of people who are contemptuous of Kathryn Tyckell's publicity photo -- the one of her in the leather jacket with the rather sultry/bewildered look on her face: I know others who more-or-less salivate. As for appearence in general, I remember a friend of mine commenting how Garth Brooks didn't look like a CW singer; short, and kinda chunky. I'm looking at a picture of Kate Rusby on Hourglass and she's not what I'd call "stunning"; attractive, certainly. Of course, what ultimately grabbed my attention was the stunning musical and performance talent all of the above -- Tyckell, Brooks and Rusby -- display. Is it perhaps more accurate that appearence, and for that matter sexuality, counts more towards starting out than it does in continuing a career? |
Subject: RE: Do 'tits book bands'? From: Bagpuss Date: 05 Sep 00 - 04:37 AM I saw the Belle and Sebastian spin off band, Looper last year. They played in darkness, with the lights on the audience. Bagpuss |
Subject: RE: Do 'tits book bands'? From: Mbo Date: 05 Sep 00 - 12:34 AM Aw, Ely, don't say you're homely. Beauty is subjective. And there's a lot more to being beautiful than physical appearance. From what I've heard, you are beautiful, and I don't think a visual image of you would change than. Sigh...If we could all be judged by things other than looks... --Matt |
Subject: RE: Do 'tits book bands'? From: Ely Date: 05 Sep 00 - 12:25 AM I think so, but maybe I'm just a disgruntled homely girl. I got ousted by a tall, winsome strawberry blonde who didn't know old-time guitar backup from a hole in her head. I suppose I must favor a certain look in guy musicians, too, but I think I'm inclined to find them considerably more attractive once they prove they can play. |
Subject: RE: Do 'tits book bands'? From: Oversoul Date: 05 Sep 00 - 12:10 AM ...glands book bands, life goes on. Be jealous of folks with great intonation! |
Subject: RE: Do 'tits book bands'? From: Mbo Date: 04 Sep 00 - 11:58 PM It was before that. I read about it in Paul Harvey's "Rest of The Story" book. |
Subject: RE: Do 'tits book bands'? From: Groucho Marxist (inactive) Date: 04 Sep 00 - 11:57 PM Mbo, You say that Merv Griffin's "face was rarely ever seen." What makes you think that? Merv had a daily television show for many years. His face was constantly seen. Groucho |
Subject: RE: Do 'tits book bands'? From: Lox Date: 04 Sep 00 - 11:55 PM Phil Collins? Genesis? 1970's? He's had over 25 years to become established. Give us someone contempotary. (remembering that 1990 was 10 years ago) |
Subject: RE: Do 'tits book bands'? From: Branwen23 Date: 04 Sep 00 - 11:50 PM yes, tits book bands. |
Subject: RE: Do 'tits book bands'? From: Oversoul Date: 04 Sep 00 - 11:33 PM My last "online" girlfriend told me she had had two breast reduction operations and still was not happy. I asked her why she just didn't have them both done at the same time. I never heard from her again. She liked "Backstreet Boys" and progressive blugrass. Was that a loss? Hmmm? |
Subject: RE: Do 'tits book bands'? From: Mbo Date: 04 Sep 00 - 11:31 PM There was this cool movie..can't remember the name..anyway, it was about these 4 girls who had a punk band, and used their looks and slutty clothes to get booked, then they'd go onstage and sing THEIR kind of music, sortoff a reflective hard edged singer songwriter style. But they start off every concert by raising their fists in the air and screaming "WE DON'T PUT OUT!!!" That was so cool! Tits may book bands, but it may have nothing to do with your style of music. |

Subject: RE: Do 'tits book bands'? From: campfire Date: 04 Sep 00 - 11:21 PM A radio announcer here once said Phil Collins was proof you DON'T have to be attractive to become a rock star. (I don't know how Phil Collins felt about that statement) campfire |
Subject: RE: Do 'tits book bands'? From: CarolC Date: 04 Sep 00 - 10:42 PM Brendy- Strange indeed. On the other hand, some of us on the other team have a difficult (didn't say hard) time understanding how you manage your equipment. ; ) Carol |
Subject: RE: Do 'tits book bands'? From: Jon Freeman Date: 04 Sep 00 - 09:39 PM Well I'd like to say no but in all honesty, if I was booking a band, all other things being equal, a good looking female band member would encourage me to book them. I wonder how many of us can honestly say that we are not influenced to some degree or other on the subject of looks and physical attraction. I suspect that even though many people will argue that they are not, it is pretty well impossible for most of us to be completely impartial. Jon |
Subject: RE: Do 'tits book bands'? From: Lox Date: 04 Sep 00 - 09:34 PM Miles Davis used to play with his back to the audience, being quite stubborn about not being there to be looked at, but to be listened to. Unfortunately, that was over 20 years ago. Music is all about sponsorship these days, and you need models to wear the right clothes and sell the right soft drinks. You might make a living, but you're not going to be Bono unless you look like Britney. (you may find that last sentence strange, and thats because it is. You get my drift though I hope) |
Subject: RE: Do 'tits book bands'? From: Mbo Date: 04 Sep 00 - 09:34 PM That should be popular, not 'possible'. |
Subject: RE: Do 'tits book bands'? From: Brendy Date: 04 Sep 00 - 09:31 PM Spice Girls? And all the clones? Never wanted to have a pair, though. B. |
Subject: RE: Do 'tits book bands'? From: Bud Savoie Date: 04 Sep 00 - 09:31 PM I don't get the thread title. I'm not sure I want to. |
Subject: RE: Do 'tits book bands'? From: Mbo Date: 04 Sep 00 - 09:17 PM Merv Griffin was wildly popular as a performer in his time, but his face was rarely ever seen. In the video for "Run Around", Blues Traveler's very first song, the band was shown only for a few seconds...I guess lead singer John Popper though that if the kids all saw a 300lb man with a harmonica, they might think it uncool..but they slowly became more visible and became more possible, and suddenly it was real people making music, not just skinny pretty-boys. |
Subject: Do 'tits book bands'? From: Marion Date: 04 Sep 00 - 09:11 PM Do you think that a musician's appearance has much of a bearing on their chances of success in the music world? Marion PS If anyone's wondering about the "tits book bands" quote, it's from the movie Fame. |
