Subject: The Second Star/The Sunshine Hornpipe From: GUEST,simon.topham@virgin.net Date: 14 Sep 00 - 08:38 AM Has anyone got the dots for either of these two tunes? Both played by Dezi Donnelly on his CD "Familiar Footsteps" First is probably from Des Donnelly, and the second from John Sheehan. |

Subject: RE: Tune Req: The Second Star/The Sunshine Hornpi From: Malcolm Douglas Date: 14 Sep 00 - 08:29 PM The Fiddler's Companion has the following entries: SUNSHINE HORNPIPE, THE (Crannciuil Taitneam na Greine). AKA and see "Shunster's Hornpipe." English, Irish, Scottish; Hornpipe. England, Northumberland. A Major (Carlin, O'Neill): G Major (Mallinson). Standard. AABB. Carlin, 1977; pg. 46. Mallinson (Enduring), 1995; No. 75, pg. 31. O'Neill (1001), 1986; No. 952, pg. 163. SHUNSTER'S HORNPIPE. AKA and see "The Sunshine Hornpipe." American, Hornpipe. A Major. Standard. AABB. "Can be used as a Clog" (Cole). Cole, 1940; pg. 100. SECOND STAR HORNPIPE, THE. Scottish, Hornpipe. B Flat Major. Standard. AABBCCDD. Composed by G. Tate. Hunter, 1988; No. 339 (arrangement and variations with Arthur S. Robertson). JC's Tunefinder has two versions of Shutter's Hornpipe, which you might like to check out in case they're anything like what you're looking for. I have a copy of the version of The Sunshine which Mallinson prints, but he doesn't give sources, so I don't know which version it is; though it's in Enduring Irish Session Tunes, it sounds more Northumbrian than Irish to me. If you'd like a copy, let me know. I haven't been able to find the tune in the online O'Neill. Malcolm |
