Subject: Stan Wilson From: GUEST Date: 15 Sep 00 - 05:38 PM I'm am trying to locate Stan Wilson, a singer popular in the 50s. I believe he was based on the west coast. He sang folk, blues, calypso, pop. Does anyone remember this performer and know what ever became of him? He would be in his 70s now I believe. |

Subject: RE: Stan Wilson From: GUEST Date: 15 Sep 00 - 06:06 PM Thank you for your efforts, Alex. That article is from 1965. The owner of that site is looking for Mr. Wilson with the hopes that he would do an interview for his site. Does anyone out there know anymore about Mr. Wilson's career, when he retired or if he is still alive? I'm not able to stop in here often but you folks always come through for me when I have a question. Thanks for posting the link, Alex. Maybe that will spark someone's memory. I've only recently discovered Mr. Wilson's work. He is an amazing talent. I wonder that he didn't become more famous.

Subject: RE: Stan Wilson From: GUEST,Michael in Swansea Date: 16 Sep 00 - 07:15 AM That's a name from the past. I have a 10 inch MONO LP of his from the 50's, my dear departed dad bought it. I'll have to dig it out and give it a blast. And yes I do have something to play it on. Thanks for the memory kick M |

Subject: RE: Stan Wilson From: Art Thieme Date: 16 Sep 00 - 11:36 AM I seem to remember an LP with a bare-chested Stan Wilson holding a hammer on the cover. Of course, "John Henry" was on that album. Something like Verve Records I think. Good polished voice. Better than Josh White vocally but not as intense or roots in character. Less guitar too, but it was a more produced pop sound for the most part. Maybe even something on Stinson Records---that old red vinyl. I think most of those had been 78 rpm records first. I seem to recall the song "Eggs And Marrowbones" too.---------Yes, a real blast from the past. But I never met or saw him personally, and have no info on where he might be now. These are 50 year back memories you've got me dredging up. But now I wonder if it was actually Josh White...? Don't think so though. Art Thieme |
