Subject: Folk Music Theology--Honest! From: Tinker Date: 18 Sep 00 - 10:42 AM I thought some of you might enjoy this. When I tried to post as a lyric add the combined title Jesus Loves Me(The Cat Came Back) kept jamming the search engine. I guess computers have trouble with some types of humor. I hope someone else enoys it, 'cause I've had great fun with it. JESUS LOVES ME (The Cat Came Back) Tinker Chorus: Jesus loves me, this I really know-ow-ow Jesus loves me, the Bible tells me soooo Jesus loves me, Today and everyday.
1. One day some families brought their kids to meet with Jesus Christ.
2.One day He went to Temple and the merchants were all there.
3. One day when Jesus visited with friends, or so I've heard
4. A man was traveling far on a long and lonely road,
5. Once there was a Shepard with many many sheep |

Subject: RE: Folk Music Theology--Honest! From: Susan from California Date: 18 Sep 00 - 08:29 PM Tinker-- I really like it! Do you have others? I noticed you are somehow connected to the Newark Episcopal Dioscise ( I really can't spell, sorry) is this the Newark in NJ? I lost my-- well let's just say I --heck, I can't think of a delicate way to say I lost my virginity in the Parsonage of an Episcopal Church close to Newark. (My boyfriends best friend was the Pastor's kid, and we were all over there one evening before I moved to Calif. It was actually rather sweet. Don't know where his folks were at the time....)

Subject: Lyr Add: OPEN UP THEM PEARLY GATES FOR ME^^ From: bseed(charleskratz) Date: 18 Sep 00 - 08:51 PM How's this for a bit of folk music theology--recorded by Doc Watson, who said he learned it from Charlie and Bill Monroe: OPEN UP THEM PEARLY GATES Come on all you sinners, if you wanna get to heaven (heaven), You'd better get right down on your knees and pray. All you gamblin' sinners, you'd better stop shoutin' that "Seven-eleven" Or you won't be ready when it comes to judgement day. Chorus: Open up them pearly gates, open up them pearly gates, Open up them pearly gates for me. When you hear that trumpet blast, I'll be comin' home at last, Open up them pearly gates for me. I done had a vision, I seen them pearly gates a-closin, And I seen you sinners all outside. Well, you better make your decision, you better hope that you'll be chosen (chosen); It'll be too late when you've laid down and died. You'd better go out to your chicken pen and ask yourself an honest question, And the Good Lord, He's gonna know it if you lie. You better turn all them chickens loose or you're gonna die of indigestion, When you eat that stolen chicken pie. You'd better take that keg of gin and pour it all right in the river, And you'd better not let old Satan stay your hand, Cuz if you fill it up again, it's gonna eat a hole right in your liver, And the gate won't open when you get to the promised land. --seed |

Subject: RE: Folk Music Theology--Honest! From: Tinker Date: 18 Sep 00 - 10:36 PM I like the Doc Watson piece, now I just have to hear it. Thanks Praise, it's a fun song to add verses to and it definately works in groups. The chorus is a fast pick up. Susan in California, I'm afraid to find out how old you are. Til about six years ago we had teenage boys in our rectory. They went to Newark Academy??? But its more than I really need to know. There are a couple of other pieces I've played with I'll try to post when I get some time. Tinker |

Subject: RE: Folk Music Theology--Honest! From: Susan from California Date: 18 Sep 00 - 11:15 PM Tinker, let's just say that this occured in the late 1970's when I was 18. And my sweetie was not Episcopal, just his friend and his parents. Also, not in Newark, in a nearby town--head up Bloomfield Ave about 4 towns, I think, hang a left at a beautiful ancient oak tree and go south a couple of blocks :-) Haven't robbed any cradles lately, so no worries! |
