Subject: RE: Dallas/Ft Worth Session II From: JedMarum Date: 13 Nov 00 - 10:12 AM Warning commercial advert follows: OK - I know it's a session week, but I have scheduled a show at Poor David's Pub in Dallas. I will be doing the first long set solo and with my friend Cliff Hale, bluegrass picker extraordinaire(sorry for the spelling). The second long set will be a song swap with my good friends Michael Harrison (Celtic/Folk performer) and Karen Riccarde with Eammons Kitchen backing us up. We've put a bit of work into this show, with new tunes and arrangements, but - lest you think we're cheating too much, I promise you most of the evening will be our usual "seat of the pants" performance! Please think about coming over to Dallas for the show. I know it's a weeknight, I know it's a hastle driving, parking, etc ... but I promise you we'll make it worth your while! The show starts at 9PM and goes 'til we stop (close to midnight). Poor David's is at Please come out to see us, if you can. We'll have a great time, and we'll be back to YOBB session next time around.

Subject: RE: Dallas/Ft Worth Session II From: Jed at Work Date: 15 Nov 00 - 11:38 AM Refresh - just in case anyone can make it! |
Subject: RE: Dallas/Ft Worth Session II From: Branwen23 Date: 15 Nov 00 - 02:53 PM Sorry, Jed... I'm a bit under the weather and Poor David's is a little too far, and a bit too much hassle for me tonight... I might try and make it out to YOBB for a bit, since it's pretty close to home, but I won't be in very good voice, and probably won't stay very late. I know you guys will have a great show... sorry I can't make it. -Branwen- |
Subject: RE: Dallas/Ft Worth Session II From: Matt Woodbury/Mimosa Date: 15 Nov 00 - 04:01 PM I think I'll get to Poor Davids. Branwen, Say hi to the YOBB folks for me. Sorry I can't do both. I plan to see you tonight, Jed. Mimosa |
Subject: RE: Dallas/Ft Worth Session II From: RedCelt Date: 15 Nov 00 - 04:06 PM Hmmm.. either listen to myself, or go and listen to some people who can actually sing... tough choice! Might actually try to do both. So what if they're on opposite sides of the metroplex! J. |
Subject: RE: Dallas/Ft Worth Session II From: RedCelt Date: 28 Nov 00 - 08:09 PM The night before session, and all through the thread, not a person was posting excpet for the Red.. (Celt that is!) Did our thread die? Ah, well, I hope to make it to session this week. Last week I didn't leave work until after midnight (RatsaFrackinServerCrashes), so I missed the Poor D's gig. How'd it go? YOBB tomorrow.. see everyone there who's gonna be there! Jeff. |
Subject: RE: Dallas/Ft Worth Session II From: GUEST,Sarah Date: 28 Nov 00 - 10:02 PM Sorry to interrupt Session talk, but this is the thread where I'm most likely to find the answer to my burning question: Anybody know the name of this year's host hotel for the NTIF 2001? Their website just keeps telling me that negotiations will be completed shortly. Some of us, from WAY out of town, have to make plans in advance, so it sure would be nice to know. Hi, Jed. Really enjoyed you guys at the Amarillo fest. Regards to the entire Kitchen from Fluffy. Sarah |
Subject: RE: Dallas/Ft Worth Session II From: Matt Woodbury/Mimosa Date: 29 Nov 00 - 12:59 PM I got to Poor David's about 10:00, enjoyed the show with Eammons Kitchen. Enjoyed the show, and had way too much room to move around. Mike, the whistle player was there, he said something about trying to put together a Sunday afternoon session mid-cities.
I have a Dress Rehearsal for the opera tonight, won't be able to get to session for a while, like February. Gotta do the job. If we're going to keep this thread up, it's about time for a new one. Mimosa |
Subject: RE: Dallas/Ft Worth Session II From: Jed at Work Date: 29 Nov 00 - 01:15 PM I hate to miss again, but once again, this is my only night off this week. I need to stay home. Thanks to Mike and Mimosa for coming out to Poor David's Pub. We really really appreciate your making the show! EK is playing at YOBB this Friday night. Please come on out, if ya can! It's Karen's B-day, and we wish to thoroughly embarass her with our celebrations! |
Subject: RE: Dallas/Ft Worth Session II From: guinnesschik Date: 29 Nov 00 - 04:38 PM Me, embarassed? Impossible! |
Subject: RE: Dallas/Ft Worth Session II From: GUEST,Sarah Date: 29 Nov 00 - 06:02 PM Well, I guess I should have guessed the secret identity of one "guinnesschik" immediately...Wish I could come down for the party, but it's still a bit far for an evening's drive. However, I promise to hoist at least one Guinness on Friday night to honor the occassion up here at one end of the state. Happy birthday, Karen. Sarah |
Subject: RE: Dallas/Ft Worth Session II From: RedCelt Date: 29 Nov 00 - 06:23 PM Guest Sarah, The NTIF hotel is ramada Plaza again. Their number is 214-421-1083. You'll need to speak to their reservations or sales people (not the front desk) to get the festival rate. Please make sure that you tell them that you're with NTIF. Last year, I understand that not enough people did so to meet the hotel contract. Thanks, Jeff Gard Assistant Coordinator for Stages. |
Subject: RE: Dallas/Ft Worth Session II From: guinnesschik Date: 29 Nov 00 - 07:21 PM Sarah! Thanks fer the greetings, and I'll sure 'n' be liftin' one or two m'self. |
Subject: RE: Dallas/Ft Worth Session II From: GUEST,Sarah Date: 29 Nov 00 - 07:28 PM Thanks Jeff! Yeah, that's why I try to stay at the host hotel -- so the festival can get those free rooms. Well, it sure isn't to get extra sleep! Am trying to get a contingent together this year. Gawd, watch out -- Amarilloans in the big city! (I usually pretend I don't really know most of them...that way I'm still on the loose when it comes time to find bail money.) Sarah |
Subject: RE: Dallas/Ft Worth Session II From: Branwen23 Date: 02 Dec 00 - 02:50 PM Karen, Jed... I feel horrible. I completely forgot that you guys were going to be at YOBB last night... I had planned to be there, but it totally slipped my mind and I spent last night sitting on the couch watching TV and letting my ass spread. Spending the evening celebrating with all of you would have been much more worthwhile. Please accept my humble apologies. -Branwen- |
Subject: RE: Dallas/Ft Worth Session II From: RedCelt Date: 09 Jan 01 - 02:22 PM Refresh - Has the thread withered away? |
Subject: RE: Dallas/Ft Worth Session II From: Matt Woodbury/Mimosa Date: 09 Jan 01 - 03:28 PM I've kept it on my tracer, but since the Opera company has enstaved me for the rest of the winter, I haven't had much to say. a friend asked me about where to hear non-classical 19th century music around Dallas. Jed? Mimosa |
Subject: RE: Dallas/Ft Worth Session II From: JedMarum Date: 10 Jan 01 - 10:45 AM I'd love to make it tonight ... we have a rehearsal scheduled, and a busy schedule otherwise so I am not if I can make it - BUT, I know y'all go 'til late, and I may be able to get there for the end - so if we finish rehearsal early enough I 'll come by - or Maybe I can talk Karen and the others into jammin' 'stead o' rehearsing! Mimosa - I sent you some thoughts on other session in town to consider - I am sure there are folks around who know of others. I'm not up on all the sessions in town. |
Subject: RE: Dallas/Ft Worth Session II From: Branwen23 Date: 10 Jan 01 - 05:49 PM Just a heads up, guys... It has been mentioned that we might have a bigger turnout at the session if it were held on Thursday rather than Wednesday... Apparently there are quite a few people who play in local bands who would probably come, but can't because their bands practice on Wednesday. I talked to Nick yesterday about changing the session day to Thursday, and he's going to check the numbers and let me know. It may turn out that Thursday won't be a good day for Nick... Apparently it tends to be a rather busy day at the pub... But we'll see. Just wanted to post it so that anyone who's interested knows what's going on. For now, of course, we'll continue to meet on Wednesdays. -Branwen- |
Subject: RE: Dallas/Ft Worth Session II From: JedMarum Date: 10 Jan 01 - 06:00 PM I'm not sure Thurs's any better for me. I am frequently booked on Thurs, which is why I often save Wed for rehearsals ... 'sides, on Thurs YOBB would be competing with Dallas best jam (at Sons of Hermann). ;-) I hope to make it late tonight. |
Subject: RE: Dallas/Ft Worth Session II From: Wesley S Date: 11 Jan 01 - 11:44 AM I've got band rehearsal on Thursday nights myself. I do hope to make it back someday but my priorities have changed just a bit. Babies have that effect y'know. |
Subject: RE: Dallas/Ft Worth Session II From: JedMarum Date: 11 Jan 01 - 11:52 AM Damn good session last night, y'all! Nice to see ya there Red and Branwen. I'm glad I dragged Karen out after rehearsal (so to keep ya out so late, Karen - I expect himself was thrilled with ya when ya finally got it). It was also good to play with Blarney Steve. I always enjoy his passion for playing! Mimosa - you were missed! I hope to make a few more sessions in the not too distant future. By the way (shameless plug); Eammons Kitchen will be at the Mist this Sat night from 8 to 12. We'd love to see any/all of y'all there! |

Harpists want to know. Mimosa |
Subject: RE: Dallas/Ft Worth Session II From: JedMarum Date: 06 Jun 01 - 08:40 PM It is going every week, Matt. I will not make it tonight. I do, from time-to-time though. See you there, soon! |
Subject: RE: Dallas/Ft Worth Session II From: RedCelt Date: 07 Jun 01 - 11:14 AM Hey Gang~ It's at least trying to go every week. I think we're fighting the season of "other things to do". Attendance has been a wee bit sparse of late, and there has been talk of taking it back to an every other week thing. I hope it's just warm weather and daylight all evening long pulling people away. Steve, Branwen and I were talking last night about how we might spread the word a bit, and hopefully get some new blood. Anyone got any ideas? For anyone new to the thread, we're talking about a Wednesday night session in Ft. Worth at a cozy local pub, Ye Olde Bull and Bush. The pub is at 2300 Montgomery street. Call them at 817-731-9206 for directions. The session starts about 7-ish (7:00 musician time means sometime before 8:00), and usually lasts until midnight or so. We run the spectrum of talent from professional and talented amateur all the way down to me, the rhythym-impaired Bodhran abuser. The Craic is grand, the beer is cold, and the music is abso-bloody-lutely terrif! Slan Go Foill, Jeff |
Subject: RE: Dallas/Ft Worth Session II From: MMario Date: 07 Jun 01 - 11:24 AM well - I heard lots of good things about this pub - but it's a bit of a long commute for me... but I *do* intend to see it the next time I'm in the area. |
Subject: RENEW: Ancient thread revival! From: GUEST,RedCelt (guess I shouldn'tve tossed ALL my c Date: 01 Apr 02 - 03:57 PM Thread Renewal... The session is alive an well. If anyone is in the Ft.Worth area of a Wednesday... c'mon by! Things have been getting under way about 8-ish (musician time, that is.. could be a wee bit later, say 9-ish) and lasting past midnight. We welcome everybody. We've had some great walk-ins.... even a couple of wandering saxaphones... who actually played Irish! Regards, Jeff the Red |
Subject: RE: Dallas/Ft Worth Session II From: Wesley S Date: 01 Apr 02 - 04:37 PM Jeff - my mandolins and I hope to make it back there one of these nights - but with a one year old son and other duties it may take a while. How about a report next Thursday morning for those of us who can't make it ? Have a great time. |
Subject: RE: Dallas/Ft Worth Session II From: nosluap57 Date: 01 Apr 02 - 10:20 PM Do any of you DFW catters know of any song circles that are going on? I'd love to get involved with one... |
Subject: RE: Dallas/Ft Worth Session II From: JedMarum Date: 02 Apr 02 - 09:14 AM nosluap57 - well you might find this Fort Worth session, while a bit of a drive - is well worth while. Great folks, nice pub, good music, lotsa fun! I participated quite a bit when I was not working so much - even though the drive was close to an hour each way. BUT - there is a great session at the Sons of Hermann Hall in Dallas every Thursday night beginning about 7:30 - but really getting going by 9. The session burns all night! Or I should say sessions. They typically have two or even three rooms going. The predominant music style is Texas acoustic - but absolutley anything goes. There will be lots of guitars, a few mandos, a fiddle or two - then maybe a banjo, an acoustic bass, a harmonica, and you can count on all of 'em playin at once! BUT it's fun. It's a good group of people and they have a great time. There are a capella singers almost every week. You might wanna check it out - even if you just listen in the first week.. |
Subject: RE: Dallas/Ft Worth Session II From: GUEST,anon Date: 05 May 02 - 11:45 PM Does that Brawnwen girl still show up? I used to go all the time, but she pissed me off so I stopped coming out. If she's there, no way in hell I'll show up again. She turned out to be a real bitch. |
