I am looking for information on what seems to me to be the now defunct Washington Records. I wonder, who has acquired the rights to their recordings? In particular, I am enquiring about an album entitled THE BIG ROCK CANDY MOUNTAIN (Songs of the American Hobo and Migratory Worker).

The users on this web board seem especially informed, so I thought that I would give it a shot.

Any leads would be MOST appreciated!

Sorry I can't answer your question but I can tell you that I have a copy of that recording.

All the best,
Dan

I do believe I recall the WASHINGTON RECORDS was a later incarnation of the old RIVERSIDE RECORDS label out of New York. They had quite a few folk LPs issued---Ewan MacColl & A.L. Lloyd 's Child Ballads collection, Rev. Gary Davis on one side and Pink Anderson on the other, an LP of Ed McCurdy doing the Robin Hood ballads with backup by our own (on occasion) Frank Hamilton, Obray Ramsey, Walter Pegram, Walter Parham etc. etc. Great jazz stuff too.

It's now all owned by FANTASY RECORDS in San Francisco. But they haven't issued much at all on CD--just some of the jazz.

Art - I'm going to pursue Fantasy Records. Thanks so much for the help. I knew I was right when I said that people on this site were informed!

Thanks again.

Dan -

Our record library has a copy as well. I am sure there aren't too many of them around anymore.

Nice chatting with you!

Alix
