Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: GUEST,Patrish Date: 03 Nov 00 - 09:40 AM great, see you soon |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Mrs.Duck Date: 03 Nov 00 - 10:53 AM singing and sessions all weekend sounds good. We will try for the Friday night. Hey and less of the Mucky Ducks!! |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Catrin Date: 03 Nov 00 - 10:56 AM Oh, I meant to say, The White Lion does food as well! |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Dave the Gnome Date: 03 Nov 00 - 11:35 AM Sounds grand to me - Afternoon sessions (Sat and Sun) we can have 2 rooms and so split singists and musicers if required. Evening sessions however (Fri and Sat) we will have only 1 room as they get quite busy downstairs. They will do food so I guess Friday night/Sat Lunch/Sun Lunch we can eat there and Sat Evng we go for a curry. There are lots of other eateries and take aways within minutes as well. Teas/Coffees also available if required. Any special requests for food/accom/pickups/transport or info on the area please feel free to PM me. I will try to arrange a fund raiser for Children in need if there are no objections - probably a raffle or some such. I think we may get a few Swinton regulars if that's OK with you all as well. See you there D the G |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: GUEST,Roger the skiffler Date: 03 Nov 00 - 11:40 AM As I won't be there I shouldn't be interfering, but if you want to raise money how about selling requests or dedications or anti-requests (if I was there people would pay for me not to sing) on the lines of Preservation hall in New Orleans (Requests $10, The Saints $20) "Wild Rover" twice as much as the rest, Patrick Spens a quid a verse etc.! I'll remove my oar now... RtS |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Bernard Date: 03 Nov 00 - 04:01 PM For what it's worth - I don't drink and drive; as I'll have to get there and back I'll be driving. So I won't be drinking... Okay! I'll get to the point in a week or two... There's room for three big 'uns in my car (or a big 'un and three a little smaller), so I can offer a lift to wherever we go for the curry. Rusholme may be a problem - Saturday night + big group = need to book in advance. There are alternatives - here in Farnworth there are a couple of places less likely to be over-subscribed (I can check); there are also other places within easy reach of the WL... Just a thought... |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Catrin Date: 03 Nov 00 - 04:04 PM Bernard - I was thinking more Sat. Tea time, about sixish - so it doesn't interfere with singing sessions (For the curry that is) Cheers, Catrin |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Mrs.Duck Date: 03 Nov 00 - 04:36 PM And then you could do human percussion! |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Micca Date: 03 Nov 00 - 06:45 PM and maybe the infamous Catspaw Fartophone might come into play??? |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Noreen Date: 03 Nov 00 - 07:42 PM The Shere Khan in Rusholme gives you a Vimto lolly if you eat up all your meal...! This sounds great. It doesn't need to be, in fact it is probably better not to try to be, an exact copy of Llanstock- that would be setting ourselves up for failure. I wasn't expecting another ceili, that happened because of who turned up and because the hall was available. Let's just put together the people available, in a suitable setting, and see what happens! Personally, I'd rather not have a segregated singing/instrumental policy- I love it when everybody participates and we get the benefit of the wide variety of talent that is Mudcat (and associated friends, of course). Noreen |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Catrin Date: 03 Nov 00 - 08:34 PM Noreen, I think you're probably right - I was trying to do the 'lets keep everybody happy' thing. My gut feeling, if I'm honest, is more like the 'lets get everybody together' and it will work! Any other feelings folks? Cheers, Catrin |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Bernard Date: 04 Nov 00 - 08:28 AM It's possible, though, that musicians may feel somewhat frustrated at not being able to play their seemingly endless diddly-diddly's! It's okay for singers, because you can join in with virtually anything. If musicians want to squeeze, pluck and bang (oo-er!) in another room, it would be easy enough for them as wants to drift between. It usually works well on Morris weekends... As I fall between both camps I know it would suit me better - or am I on my own in this (as usual!!)? Anyway, the decision may well depend on how many turn up... |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: GUEST,hammerite Date: 04 Nov 00 - 08:33 AM Hello unforchuntly me and Kingbrilliant can not atend due to the distants between were I live and manchester. But we will dedacate a song for all of you at our local folk club that weekend to be with you in spirit. P.S Sorry for my spelling |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Noreen Date: 04 Nov 00 - 01:20 PM Hi, hammerite, and thanks for the thought. We will no doubt raise a glass or two to 'Absent Friends'- particularly to absent founder-members of Llanstock! Noreen |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Micca Date: 04 Nov 00 - 01:37 PM Absinthe Friends.....I might have a hip flask here, somewhere, with a little drop of something interesting in it... |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Zebedee Date: 04 Nov 00 - 01:49 PM If it's becoming a Swinton get together, I won't be able to get to that much (I don't have a car) I could probably do most of the Saturday, but would have to leave quite early, public transport being what it is (isn't)... Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: John Routledge Date: 06 Nov 00 - 02:26 PM LLAFAIR Have just returned from a weekend of Northumbrian Piping tuition in Somerset and am now brimming with confidence. Will practice a few short tunes and at least people will get a taster of a wonderful instrument. Hopefully the quality of the performance will match the quality of the instrument! As I recall Rusholme really does heave on Saturday night so any expedition should be 5.30/6.00. as already suggested. This has advantage of leaving more time after eating for other activities. Looking forward to meeting everyone during the event. Kindest regards to all G.Broon

Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Catrin Date: 07 Nov 00 - 02:54 PM Mdennerly - I would be extremely pleased to ring you - if I kenw who you were (!?) I assume a friend of Franks. Just got back fromWales - very excited about this! Yay hay!! Cheers, Catrin |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Catrin Date: 07 Nov 00 - 03:21 PM Mdennerly - I've just realised who you are!!!! I have been sitting here for ages being all intrigued and waondering. The light has now dawned. Did you know that you are the person who first told me about mudcat? - came in the Jolly one night leading up to christmas with a pile of christmas carols, hot off the mudcat press!! Of course you are welcome at the white Lion! Hope to see you there! Catrin (feeling sheepish!) |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: KingBrilliant Date: 08 Nov 00 - 03:18 AM I'd be a bit wary of feeling sheepish Catrin, Eric the V is very fond of sheep..... Kris |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: GUEST,micca at work Date: 08 Nov 00 - 04:40 AM If ewe know what we mean!!!!! |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Dave the Gnome Date: 08 Nov 00 - 04:51 AM Less of the sheep jokes - any more and you will be Baaaah-ed! |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: GUEST,Marion Date: 08 Nov 00 - 06:48 AM Caitrin. Yes, of course I remember that night and many others thats why I was surprised when I read your first mail. Sorry I've not been in touch but you know how things can develop and with not going in the Jolly , well time just flies by! Great to hear from you and glad you're enjoying the mudcat. and as for the sheep............Well you've seen the numbers of them I have at home, and they keep multiplying. |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Dave the Gnome Date: 08 Nov 00 - 08:34 AM How's everyone doing with transport and accomodation - anyone need any help? Do we have an idea of numbers who may want to eat at the pub yet - Liz the Landlady has only just started doing food and would like to know how many and when - oh, and any vegetarian or other special requests? If I suggest Sat and Sun lunchtimes only and possibly around 20 would I be too far off the mark??? She does a splendid full breakfast if anyone likes to keep their cholesterol levels up! Second idea to add to the penguin workshop - I have researched not 1 but 2 Swinton May Songs - I will bring the dots and words if anyone wants to learn them and/or offer to put the tune into midi format for the DT I am bringing a couple of items for Auction/Raffle for the Children in need charity - any other offers will be gratefuly accepted. Good idea earlier about pledges for (or against!) particular songs - 5000 pound fine for anyone doing the Manchester Rambler....;-) D the G |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Micca Date: 08 Nov 00 - 10:01 AM Dave, see me when I get there...re-Man.Ramb. I have a parody of it but they wont let me sing it...!!!! too obscene they say.. |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Bagpuss Date: 08 Nov 00 - 12:16 PM I might just be able to make it for some of this weekend - if I can persuade Mr Bagpuss to drive me :-) Maybe see you there. Bagpuss |

Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Dave the Gnome Date: 08 Nov 00 - 07:35 PM Micca - Does the parody contain the lines "Sooner than part from the mountains I love, I'd rather have Rachel in bed" ??? S'pose I should not ask realy - I hope to hear it soon enough. See you soon DTG |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Bagpuss Date: 09 Nov 00 - 03:50 PM Mr B is busy (has OFSTED the following week) - but I'll try and get there for some of it anyway. Anyone who could pick me up from Victoria would be most appreciated. Ta Bagpuss |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Brakn Date: 09 Nov 00 - 07:22 PM It's a shame being relatively local that I'll not be able to get there. I'm fairly busy at weekends but would like to meet you guys sometime in the future! Hope you all have a great time! |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Catrin Date: 10 Nov 00 - 12:41 PM Has everyone sorted out accomodation OK? |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Bernard Date: 10 Nov 00 - 02:05 PM I think I'll be okay - there's a house in Farnworth where I can stay... |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Mrs.Duck Date: 10 Nov 00 - 02:19 PM What is the situation regarding parking at the pub. We are intending to come over for the Friday evening as early as is possibleand would like to park as close as possible as we have had problems in the past. |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Mrs.Duck Date: 10 Nov 00 - 02:20 PM What is the situation regarding parking at the pub? We are intending to come over for the Friday evening as early as is possibleand would like to park as close as possible as we have had problems in the past. |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Zebedee Date: 10 Nov 00 - 04:11 PM Aaargghh! Just realised that I've double booked myself. Sorry for being stupid in getting the weekend wrong: I've got something that I can't rearrange next weekend. Shame Not that you'll miss me! Ed |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Catrin Date: 10 Nov 00 - 04:17 PM Oh, Zebedee - Ed - do you exist??? Come to the Jolly one Monday and prove you are not a figment of our imagniation *BG* Seriously, I am sorry you can't make it - you WILL be missed. Cheers, Catrin |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Zebedee Date: 10 Nov 00 - 05:38 PM Catrin, I do exist honest! I keep meaning to come to the 'Jolly' but Mondays are 13 hours long in my current job. When I finish, I just want to go to bed... I'd love to go to man-llan-folk-curry-chester, but given that my girlfriend has been having a very bad time recently, and we have the option of a weekend together (alone) in Windermere, please don't blame me for choosing not to come to a weekend-long sing around. Hope you all have a lovely time Ed |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Dave the Gnome Date: 10 Nov 00 - 07:20 PM Parking is no problem - Big car park at the back of the pub and it is watched by passive IR (or is it UV - I can't remember...) camera. The trick is finding it! Look at the map posted earlier - You will see the junction of the A6(Manchester Road) and A572 (Worsley Road). The turn off for the car park is off the A6, just before the left turn for the A572 (Coming from Manchester). It is either Dorning or Dorchester Road, and, please forgive me, I cannot remeber which without going to have a look! (It's raining, cold, I've had a few.... SO!!!!) See you all there Cheers D the G |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Catrin Date: 10 Nov 00 - 08:50 PM Dave - I always manage to get back a bit later than you! Nurnynurnynurny Ed - I know what you mean. Its my fortieth soon, and Dave's fiftieth - and we've never been married (despite living together for over twenty years!) People tell us we should be going to Paris or somewhere exiting. Guess where we're going? The lake District! |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Naemanson Date: 10 Nov 00 - 09:28 PM I haven't read the whole thread but I thought it was a pretty neat idea. Especially since when you get together on the 19th in Manchester, England, we will just be finishing a Mudcat party just outside of Manchester, New Hampshire, USA! The beat goes on... |
