Sounds grand to me - Afternoon sessions (Sat and Sun) we can have 2 rooms and so split singists and musicers if required. Evening sessions however (Fri and Sat) we will have only 1 room as they get quite busy downstairs.

They will do food so I guess Friday night/Sat Lunch/Sun Lunch we can eat there and Sat Evng we go for a curry. There are lots of other eateries and take aways within minutes as well.

Teas/Coffees also available if required. Any special requests for food/accom/pickups/transport or info on the area please feel free to PM me.

I will try to arrange a fund raiser for Children in need if there are no objections - probably a raffle or some such.

I think we may get a few Swinton regulars if that's OK with you all as well.

As I won't be there I shouldn't be interfering, but if you want to raise money how about selling requests or dedications or anti-requests (if I was there people would pay for me not to sing) on the lines of Preservation hall in New Orleans (Requests $10, The Saints $20) "Wild Rover" twice as much as the rest, Patrick Spens a quid a verse etc.!

For what it's worth - I don't drink and drive; as I'll have to get there and back I'll be driving. So I won't be drinking...

Okay! I'll get to the point in a week or two...

There's room for three big 'uns in my car (or a big 'un and three a little smaller), so I can offer a lift to wherever we go for the curry.

Rusholme may be a problem - Saturday night + big group = need to book in advance.

There are alternatives - here in Farnworth there are a couple of places less likely to be over-subscribed (I can check); there are also other places within easy reach of the WL...

Just a thought...

This sounds great. It doesn't need to be, in fact it is probably better not to try to be, an exact copy of Llanstock- that would be setting ourselves up for failure.

I wasn't expecting another ceili, that happened because of who turned up and because the hall was available. Let's just put together the people available, in a suitable setting, and see what happens!

Personally, I'd rather not have a segregated singing/instrumental policy- I love it when everybody participates and we get the benefit of the wide variety of talent that is Mudcat (and associated friends, of course).

Noreen, I think you're probably right - I was trying to do the 'lets keep everybody happy' thing. My gut feeling, if I'm honest, is more like the 'lets get everybody together' and it will work!

It's possible, though, that musicians may feel somewhat frustrated at not being able to play their seemingly endless diddly-diddly's!

It's okay for singers, because you can join in with virtually anything. If musicians want to squeeze, pluck and bang (oo-er!) in another room, it would be easy enough for them as wants to drift between. It usually works well on Morris weekends...

As I fall between both camps I know it would suit me better - or am I on my own in this (as usual!!)?

Anyway, the decision may well depend on how many turn up...

LLAFAIR Have just returned from a weekend of Northumbrian Piping tuition in Somerset and am now brimming with confidence. Will practice a few short tunes and at least people will get a taster of a wonderful instrument. Hopefully the quality of the performance will match the quality of the instrument!

As I recall Rusholme really does heave on Saturday night so any expedition should be 5.30/6.00. as already suggested. This has advantage of leaving more time after eating for other activities.

Looking forward to meeting everyone during the event.

How's everyone doing with transport and accomodation - anyone need any help?

Do we have an idea of numbers who may want to eat at the pub yet - Liz the Landlady has only just started doing food and would like to know how many and when - oh, and any vegetarian or other special requests?

If I suggest Sat and Sun lunchtimes only and possibly around 20 would I be too far off the mark???

She does a splendid full breakfast if anyone likes to keep their cholesterol levels up!

Second idea to add to the penguin workshop - I have researched not 1 but 2 Swinton May Songs - I will bring the dots and words if anyone wants to learn them and/or offer to put the tune into midi format for the DT

I am bringing a couple of items for Auction/Raffle for the Children in need charity - any other offers will be gratefuly accepted.

Good idea earlier about pledges for (or against!) particular songs - 5000 pound fine for anyone doing the Manchester Rambler....;-)

I keep meaning to come to the 'Jolly' but Mondays are 13 hours long in my current job. When I finish, I just want to go to bed...

I'd love to go to man-llan-folk-curry-chester, but given that my girlfriend has been having a very bad time recently, and we have the option of a weekend together (alone) in Windermere, please don't blame me for choosing not to come to a weekend-long sing around.

Parking is no problem - Big car park at the back of the pub and it is watched by passive IR (or is it UV - I can't remember...) camera.The trick is finding it!

Look at the map posted earlier - You will see the junction of the A6(Manchester Road) and A572 (Worsley Road). The turn off for the car park is off the A6, just before the left turn for the A572 (Coming from Manchester). It is either Dorning or Dorchester Road, and, please forgive me, I cannot remeber which without going to have a look! (It's raining, cold, I've had a few.... SO!!!!)

I haven't read the whole thread but I thought it was a pretty neat idea. Especially since when you get together on the 19th in Manchester, England, we will just be finishing a Mudcat party just outside of Manchester, New Hampshire, USA!
