Subject: Bet's classrm needs Pepsi Notes, please From: katlaughing Date: 28 Oct 00 - 02:00 AM My sister and Mudcatter, bet, teaches elementary music at a school in Colorado. Pepsi is running a program called "Share the Joy in Music" and placing "Pepsi Notes" on all products they sell. These "notes" can be collected and redeemed, by enrolled schools, for music related products. Encouraging bad nutrition and commercialism in our schools aside (there I've said it, so we can keep the debate out of this thread, please, remember collecting for Apple computers in every classroom?**BG** Besides that no school ever has enough funding, esp. for the music dept., right?!), this program will allow schools to purchase much needed instruments and other items. Bet has sent in all of the paper work and enrolled her school. She has an ambitious goal of 20 some electronic keyboards which can be integrated with the computers, which she can then use to teach them to make midi files, etc. like we do, right, bet?*heehee* Anyway, to obtain that many keyboards will take something like 50 or 80,000 Pepsi notes, I can't remember what she told me, sorry. She lives in a small town and is not sure they will collect enough, so I said, how about the Mudcatters? I'll bet they would be willing to help. SO....if you are willing, would you please take a look at the home page of Pepsinotes, where you will find a link to the participating products list? Also, if you are willing, bet needs them all gathered by February. You can send them to:
Music Department THANK YOU VERY, VERY MUCH!!! If you have any questions please send bet or me a PM, or stick it here, in the thread. Just think of all those kids making music because Mudcatters Helped to Make It Possible!! Thanks a bunch, kat

Subject: RE: Help: Bet's classrm needs Pepsi Notes, pleas From: Thyme2dream Date: 28 Oct 00 - 02:16 AM I have a friend who drinks a case of Pepsi a week...now while I may or may not condone this behavior, I'm sure he'd be glad to pass along the PepsiNotes...if everyone here at Mudcat knew someone like that, we'd probably be able to help a lot, eh? A quick glance at the products list also tells me that some 'food' products like RoldGold pretzels (hey, a lowfat snack that my boys LOVE)are included in the promotion as well--Okay, count us in for helpin!! |
Subject: RE: Help: Bet's classrm needs Pepsi Notes, pleas From: catspaw49 Date: 28 Oct 00 - 02:24 AM Thanks a lot kat.......Now I can feel guilty for buying that cheap "house brand" pop..........Just what I needed...Another guilt trip................BUT... WOW....That's a fun site to read! Really can get all kinds of things........and............since Karen drinks Diet Dew and I feel guilty, we'll do what we can!!! Spaw |
Subject: RE: Help: Bet's classrm needs Pepsi Notes, pleas From: Banjer Date: 28 Oct 00 - 04:08 AM Neat program, we consume Pepsi products by the gallon here so I'm sure we can save the notes. I haven't seen any marked products yet but will keep my eye out for them. |
Subject: RE: Help: Bet's classrm needs Pepsi Notes, pleas From: GUEST,rabbitrunning Date: 28 Oct 00 - 09:19 AM I'm another Pepsiholic, so I can help as soon as I start seeing the marked bottles. I've even been to Craig! (once long ago, anyway...) |
Subject: RE: Help: Bet's classrm needs Pepsi Notes, pleas From: katlaughing Date: 28 Oct 00 - 10:06 AM Kewl! Thanks everyone!! luvyakat |
Subject: RE: Help: Bet's classrm needs Pepsi Notes, pleas From: MMario Date: 28 Oct 00 - 10:17 AM another household of pepsiholics here, and I'm in charge of both purchasing and returns....*grin* |
Subject: RE: Help: Bet's classrm needs Pepsi Notes, pleas From: MMario Date: 28 Oct 00 - 10:21 AM drat! they aren't putting them on the bottles we buy!!!! |
Subject: RE: Help: Bet's classrm needs Pepsi Notes, pleas From: campfire Date: 28 Oct 00 - 11:43 AM I haven't seen any marked products in this area yet, either, but if and when, you'll get ours, too. campfire (and Jolly) |
Subject: RE: Help: Bet's classrm needs Pepsi Notes, pleas From: Lyrical Lady Date: 28 Oct 00 - 12:52 PM I'll keep my eye open for them Kat. My husband and I own a grocery store that sells tons of pepsi and we also take the returns. Our little school is against corporate sponsership so I will gladly send them to your sister. ...LL |
Subject: RE: Help: Bet's classrm needs Pepsi Notes, pleas From: SINSULL Date: 28 Oct 00 - 03:20 PM Minimum two 12 packs per week. Too bad, I have been cutting off the UPC codes form the cartons for years. Must have a few hundred. Any way we can fudge the paperwork? |
Subject: RE: Help: Bet's classrm needs Pepsi Notes, pleas From: katlaughing Date: 28 Oct 00 - 03:45 PM Naw, Sins, it's not the UPC codes, that I know of. As I understand it, it is special little "pepsinotes" which will be on the products. Thanks everyone. You are JUST GREAT!! I can't wait for bet to log on and see this thread! She could really use a lift this week and this will just do the trick, I know! luvyakat |
Subject: RE: Help: Bet's classrm needs Pepsi Notes, pleas From: catspaw49 Date: 28 Oct 00 - 03:54 PM We just returned from a day out (pumpkin farm, pet store, shopping, breakfast) and I looked but the store cicn't have any marked cartons yet. As soon as they do.....bet gets 'em. Spaw - Played with a gorgeous 5 month old Macaw BTW |
Subject: RE: Help: Bet's classrm needs Pepsi Notes, pleas From: Dave (the ancient mariner) Date: 28 Oct 00 - 04:05 PM Sorry kat. Coca Cola Bears Rule in my house. (Emma would kill me if I bought Pepsi) Yours, Aye. Dave (the ancient bear keeper) |
Subject: RE: Help: Bet's classrm needs Pepsi Notes, pleas From: katlaughing Date: 28 Oct 00 - 07:53 PM Okay, I read some more fine print: the pepsinotes will begine to appear on products "on or about the first week in November, so I jumped the gun a little. Spaw, I am jalous, macaws can be such sweeties! Dave, it's not just pepsi, it also Frito-lay products, if you click on the link and go to participating produts you can see little icons for what items will have them. Oh, and tell Emma she has good taste; I only have Coke products in my house, too.:-) Thanks, everyone, you're all just great. kat |
Subject: RE: Help: Bet's classrm needs Pepsi Notes, pleas From: Hotspur Date: 28 Oct 00 - 10:14 PM Kat, what about the Campbell's Soup Labels for Education program as well? It's not specifically for music, but I'm pretty sure schools can choose to put their labels toward music equipment if they want to. Just a thought. I'll save any Pepsinotes I come across...but I rarely drink soda, so I'll probably have to scrounge from somebody else.

Subject: RE: Help: Bet's classrm needs Pepsi Notes, pleas From: bet Date: 30 Oct 00 - 08:24 PM Wow! What great folks out there. I just talked to the Pepsi people and they said the "Pepsi Notes" will be out on Nov. 6 so look for them then. My kids are really excited about this and you Mudcatters. We have our map ready and will pinpoint areas that we receive the notes from. Hotspur, Campell Soup labels are good ideas also. If you don't have a favorite school we collect them all, soup labels, and Boxtops for Education. I have some 4th graders that are going to log on the this sight soon. They are full of ideas and songs.**BG** Thanks all bet |
Subject: RE: Help: Bet's classrm needs Pepsi Notes, pleas From: catspaw49 Date: 30 Oct 00 - 08:57 PM So now I have to watch my language or what? Gimmee a break bet!!! Spaw |
Subject: RE: Help: Bet's classrm needs Pepsi Notes, pleas From: katlaughing Date: 31 Oct 00 - 12:20 AM Bet, we should set up a HearMe, when your class logs on. I'll bet we could find someone in Oz, the UK, and a few of us in the US who would be able to get on during your daytime school hours. We could take turns with your kids, singing. Oh, yeah, and remind me to tell you how to operate the "Spaw Filter!" LOL!! luvysis...kat |
Subject: RE: Help: Bet's classrm needs Pepsi Notes, pleas From: GUEST,Kyle Date: 01 Nov 00 - 12:09 AM What a neat idea. I'll have folks at work collect them and then I'll send them on to Colarado. Keep singing and playing. |
Subject: RE: Help: Bet's classrm needs Pepsi Notes, pleas From: GUEST,Bill in Alabama Date: 01 Nov 00 - 06:23 AM I'll start looking for them next week. Like 'Spaw, I usually drink the house brand, which, down here is made from stump water and sorghum tailings, but I like the idea of getting music into the classroom and I reckon I'll move up to the good stuff for a couple of months. We'll do what we can. |
Subject: RE: Help: Bet's classrm needs Pepsi Notes, pleas From: katlaughing Date: 01 Nov 00 - 09:28 AM That's really great. Thank you all so much. This means a lot to bet and her kids! |
Subject: RE: Help: Bet's classrm needs Pepsi Notes, pleas From: SINSULL Date: 01 Nov 00 - 09:39 AM Kat, I am suspicious by nature. Is there a dental clinic in the works here? Planning on setting one up at the House of the Rising Sun after you rot all our teeth out? Just checking. If you do a kids' Hearme, you really need to get Joe Offer involved. And Spaw's kids seem to be doing OK. I can't imagine that exposure to him will do anyone any harm. Cletus, on the other hand, could be a bad influence. He is a goodhearted, simple soul but has some odd habits. |
Subject: RE: Help: Bet's classrm needs Pepsi Notes, pleas From: bet Date: 01 Nov 00 - 09:56 PM Spaw, Don't worry about the language. I'll let you know when we're going to check in. he Hear Me sounds great, I'll try to get something going soon. Right now we're casting for the Christmas play. BIG JOB!!!!! (One day at a time) I also drink the generic but will try the other because of their support of music which is of course part of the reason they are doing this. Thanks everyone.bet |
Subject: RE: Help: Bet's classrm needs Pepsi Notes, pleas From: katlaughing Date: 01 Nov 00 - 10:02 PM Hi, sis! Sins, I hear ya on Joe and agree, unfortunately he's off galivanting for a while longer. Also, Spaw's kids aside, he only has a half-baked sound card, so he cannot participate in the full realm of the HearMe experience, i.e. grace us with his warbles or whatever it is he does besides kick up litter!**BG** Bet, just let us know. BTW, there is a neat private radio website that you could hae on in your classroom if you want your kids to hear really good Celtic and Rennaissance music. Look for the thread I started today called, "Do you recognise this audio website?" I listened to it for over 5 hours today and they only spoke once in between CDs to say who they were and where their website could be found. Great examples of some very fine music. luvyakatthelittlesister! |
Subject: RE: Help: Bet's classrm needs Pepsi Notes, pleas From: bet Date: 11 Nov 00 - 08:26 PM Pepsi Notes should be out. I've found them on the Frito bags but our stores do not have the Pepsi cartons out yet. SMALL TOWN! Anyway I hope all of you that see these are saving them for some music teacher. If you don't know of anyone else we'd love to get them. bet |
Subject: RE: Help: Bet's classrm needs Pepsi Notes, pleas From: campfire Date: 11 Nov 00 - 09:06 PM I bought my first case of Pepsi-noted Pepsi!!! I'll save up the little icons and send when i have a stack. I try not to eat Fritos.... campfire |
Subject: RE: Help: Bet's classrm needs Pepsi Notes, pleas From: IvanB Date: 11 Nov 00 - 10:25 PM Checked Fritos products at our local Kroger's (Lansing, MI). No Pepsi Notes yet :-( Ours is a Coke household too, but I'll gladly clog up my arteries (so what would be new?) for the cause. |
Subject: RE: Help: Bet's classrm needs Pepsi Notes, pleas From: Thyme2dream Date: 12 Nov 00 - 01:58 AM Pepsi Notes are out in Kansas...my aforementioned friend bought his first case with them yesterday--here's to collecting! :-) |
Subject: RE: Help: Bet's classrm needs Pepsi Notes, pleas From: Mary in Kentucky Date: 12 Nov 00 - 04:56 PM The caffeine free Diet Pepsi with the Pepsi Notes finally made it to Kentucky! Even though I'm married to a classic man (if you know what I mean), I'm not that particular and will save all the notes I can. I'm sure Bet knows how to beg and fundraise (afterall, she's a teacher), but when my boys were collecting soup labels, one boy put a message on the grocery store bulletin board, and some kind lady mailed him over 100 labels! You never know... |
Subject: RE: Help: Bet's classrm needs Pepsi Notes, pleas From: Zebedee Date: 12 Nov 00 - 05:09 PM Sorry for being the cynic, but you have to drink 1000's of cans to get as much as a triangle. Pepsi's marketing people will love you! You'll buy their product for months, and the end result will cost them a few hundred dollars, they'll have won. Sorry for being cynical, but it needed pointing out. Ed Buy cheap cola, pool the money you save, and you'll have many more instruments
|
Subject: RE: Help: Bet's classrm needs Pepsi Notes, pleas From: Mary in Kentucky Date: 12 Nov 00 - 05:19 PM But the way I look at it...if you can just get the people who already use the product to send in those notes, the company has to pay up. I won't change my drinking habits, but I'll make a little extra effort to get those notes from friends and family who have them lying around. Same with the soup labels. I usually buy the cheap brand, but when I do have one that's worth saving, I get a small delight from stashing it away and saving it for some kid. |
Subject: RE: Help: Bet's classrm needs Pepsi Notes, pleas From: Zebedee Date: 12 Nov 00 - 05:53 PM Mary, If you stuck with your usual brand, and kept the pence you saved by not buying Pepsi, you'd be able to provide a lot more instruments that you will by following this horribly cynical pepsi promotion. All pepsi care about is selling more drinks - and given the responses in this thread, it seems that it's working |
Subject: RE: Help: Bet's classrm needs Pepsi Notes, pleas From: Mary in Kentucky Date: 12 Nov 00 - 07:07 PM But that's my point, I drink Pepsi anyway, so why not make 'em pay up. I agree with you though, Zebedee. I hate to see advertising and commercialism win out. I think this advertising campaign was aimed at the holiday drink purchases. I'm already buying more soft drinks because I know I'll have company for Thanksgiving. So often decisions are made on a product being a few cents cheaper, or a promotion like this to "help music and kids", or just which product is placed on the end of the aisle. (That's why the groceries alternate the end aisle displays, and the drink companies do all the moving around and setting up displays for the stores.) But still, I buy Diet Pepsi when it's on sale, and Diet Coke when it's on sale. It's easy for me to clip the Pepsi Notes from the Pepsi cartons when I have them anyway. I most certainly will not change my buying habits. But I'm sure that this advertising gimmack will be a marginal deciding factor for enough people that Pepsi will increase their sales. The real question for me will be if Pepsi is never on sale while they have these notes. If this is the case, I'll only buy what I would have to buy anyway to serve my guests who only drink Pepsi. I think the point here at Mudcat is for anyone that happens to use these products anyway, take a moment to send in the note. Nobody should change their buying habits or choices. |
Subject: RE: Help: Bet's classrm needs Pepsi Notes, pleas From: katlaughing Date: 12 Nov 00 - 07:30 PM Zebedee, at the beginning of the thread I had said, Encouraging bad nutrition and commercialism in our schools aside (there I've said it, so we can keep the debate out of this thread, please, remember collecting for Apple computers in every classroom?**BG** Besides that no school ever has enough funding, esp. for the music dept., right?!), this program will allow schools to purchase much needed instruments and other items. My sister is a fantastic teacher who really cares about her kids and has been doing what she is able to with the limited amount of funding and support that is available for over 25 years. If you do not want to participate that is fine, but please do not turn THIS thread into a debate on the merits of such programs. Please go start a different thread for that, if that is what you want to talk about. To everyone who has been so supportive and esp. to MaryinK for her excellent points in her last two posts, thank you. kat |
Subject: RE: Help: Bet's classrm needs Pepsi Notes, pleas From: campfire Date: 13 Nov 00 - 08:42 AM I drink Pepsi anyway, too (don't like Coke, don't like the store brand)- and yes, I found the "special" cases on a very good sale, too (warehouse grocery store). So, I can buy my "regular brand", AND save (some) money, and help out the music program. Geez, I can feel good about my vice! (I know I drink WAY too much soda, but nobody's perfect) campfire

Subject: RE: Help: Bet's classrm needs Pepsi Notes, pleas From: SINSULL Date: 13 Nov 00 - 10:14 AM I drink inordinate amounts of Pepsi - sorry Zeb. But the Pepsi Notes have not shown up in my local market yet. Now if anyone wants a lifetime supply of UPC symbols cut from hundreds of Pepsi twelve packs... |
Subject: RE: Help: Bet's classrm needs Pepsi Notes, pleas From: SINSULL Date: 14 Nov 00 - 11:58 AM Good News/Bad News Pepsi Notes cartons finally appeared in Jackson Heights but only in the form of Pepsi One. Being a good 'Catter, i bought it in place of Pepsi much to the distress of my fellow Pepsi addicts. Hopefully, the "real thing" will show uo soon in the appropriate packaging. |
Subject: RE: Help: Bet's classrm needs Pepsi Notes, pleas From: MMario Date: 12 Dec 00 - 03:50 PM very little showing up in my area - and intermittantly...but refreshing this anyway becasue it has the address in it. Note: the school has to REDEEM them by feb 6th, I believe it is; so mail 'em out in plenty of time for Bet to count them etc... |
Subject: RE: Help: Bet's classrm needs Pepsi Notes, pleas From: katlaughing Date: 20 Dec 00 - 07:15 PM Thanks MMario for the earlier refresh. Just a reminder for those of you who might be stocking up on refreshmnets for the holidays. The address to send them to is in my first posting and Mmario is right, bet has to get them sent in by Feb. 6th. Thanks very much, ya'll! kat |
Subject: RE: Help: Bet's classrm needs Pepsi Notes, pleas From: Mary in Kentucky Date: 20 Dec 00 - 07:20 PM Hi kat, my daughter and I have collected about 50 points now. Should I send them now, or in January? Mary |
Subject: RE: Help: Bet's classrm needs Pepsi Notes, pleas From: Sorcha Date: 20 Dec 00 - 07:32 PM Mary, I am going to send now, and keep collecting...until the last minute. My mail to CO is probably faster than yours, so I would suggest sending no later than Jan 15. That should get them to Bet in time for her to send them in. What about all you other "Pepsi/Dew Holics out there? Got stuff? |
Subject: RE: Help: Bet's classrm needs Pepsi Notes, pleas From: SINSULL Date: 20 Dec 00 - 08:46 PM Me too. Send now and more later. Let us know how many TOTAL she gets. |
Subject: RE: Help: Bet's classrm needs Pepsi Notes, pleas From: katlaughing Date: 20 Dec 00 - 09:33 PM Will do! You gals are Ggrrrrrr-e-a-t! Thanks! |
Subject: RE: Help: Bet's classrm needs Pepsi Notes, pleas From: MMario Date: 20 Dec 00 - 10:25 PM have to cut them off the bottles tomorrow so I can take the bottles in to redeem - then should be shipping out 50 or so this weekend. |
Subject: RE: Help: Bet's classrm needs Pepsi Notes, pleas From: Tinker Date: 20 Dec 00 - 10:37 PM Kat, As I buy for the holidays I'll save them and send them off. Also have Bet check www.believeproductions.com, our elementary school Orff program is selling their Cd's this year and they seem to be very well set up. It's still marketing, but they are targeting music education as a priority.... And if Sony happens to highlight their current artists on the Cd.... well the profits are going to music education..... Tinker |
Subject: RE: Help: Bet's classrm needs Pepsi Notes, pleas From: Sorcha Date: 28 Dec 00 - 01:37 PM Just mailed 56 notes to Bet......be sure and let us know how many she gets, OK? |
Subject: RE: Help: Bet's classrm needs Pepsi Notes, pleas From: katlaughing Date: 07 Jan 01 - 11:44 PM Thanks, Sorcha. I just talked to bet, tonight and she said that she'd received the ones you sent. Watch your mail for a note from the kids. They now have Torrington marked on a map which they are using to track from where the Pepsi Notes are sent. Just a reminder to any of you others who may be saving them, please send them out no later than the end of January. Bet said they now have enough for one electronic keyboard with midi interface, headphones, etc. It is a good start, but they are hoping for more. Thanks for anything you can do to help. kat |
Subject: RE: Help: Bet's classrm needs Pepsi Notes, pleas From: campfire Date: 07 Jan 01 - 11:58 PM Thanks for the reminder, Kat. I'll get mine in the mail. I've only got 68 points so far, but I'm out of Pepsi so I'll stock up and then send them all out. I find it curious that you get 10 points for a 24 pack, but only 4 points for a 12 pack. The 24 packs are usually cheaper than two 12 packs, anyway, so what's the marketing ploy here? campfire |
Subject: RE: Help: Bet's classrm needs Pepsi Notes, pleas From: MMario Date: 08 Jan 01 - 08:43 AM and you only get one point for a three liter bottle, or a two liter bottle, both of which are frequently more expensive then the six, twelve or 24 packs. (but my family won't use the cans. and the smaller bottles don't even COME with pepsi notes, at least in our area. |
