Yep....Here we are ....Ready to snag that extra hour's worht of sleep. Spring Forward, Fall Back and all that happy horseshit. The Dylan song has been analyzed to death, but the reality is that Bob was just saying that the clocks changed twice a year and he so lame it took another song to get the point across.....Don't Think Twice, Its Alright. All those silly ass lines about blocking the hall and criticizing stuff was simply about confusion from the everybody showing up at the wrong time and all thos folks in Indiana who raise hell over the whole Daylight Savings Time issue. Another case of taking a simple ass lyric from a simple ass writer and developing an entire philosophy around it........Bob didn't guive a damn about the "Movement," he just was trying to set his watch.

Go for the sleep folks. Gawd, I love FALL!!!!

Geez, Spaw, it is a relief to finally know exactly what Bob had in mind, after all these years. And here I thought that "Time Passes Slowly" was about getting away from it all and returning to the simplicity of love and of life in the country and all that. Gosh...

Anyway, thanks for the reminder. I am about to reset the clocks.

It's 1958? Hey, my mom's taking me to my first Pete Seeger concert, in Live Oak Park, Berkeley CA. Being five years old, I call him "Pete Singer."

Gawd....THIS IS A RIOT!!!! chanteyrangers post makes no sense at all without the one I posted before, but owing to the time change, it will actually FOLLOW this one....its about the tome in Orillia being 8:37 PM in February of '58, but since I posted it before the time change then it went back an hour, anything I post now, prior to 1:38 will show up BEFORE it does!!!!!

We have daylight saving in Australia, but NOT in Western Australia, where I live. The arguements against it were many, including: Daylight saving will fade the curtains; The children will get more sunburned; The cows won't give milk at the right time, and many others too stupid to mention. So now we have, during the summer months, no less than 6 different time zones in Australia, which at midnight Western Australian time, are:

Western Australia - 12 midnight
Border Town - 1.15am
Northern Territory,1.30am
Queensland - 2.00am
South Australia - 2.30am
Tasmania/NSW/Vic - 3.00am

Northern Territory is on the same meridian as South Australia but doesn't have daylight saving,Queensland is on the same meridian as Victoria/Tasmania/New South Wales , but does not have daylight saving.

It would take a fool not to notice that Western Australia and Queensland have the least faded curtains!

Cheers

Bugsy

I have always thought Daylight Saving Time ridiculous. The days get shorter and longer, as they have for eons, no matter what f-----g time it is. Maybe we could work our schedules around Nature, instead of trying to make Nature conform to our schedules?

Can I go to Lancaster, Pennsylvania, 1985?

Of course Steely Dan's "Go back, Jack, do it again" refers to setting the clocks back also. "We'll turn them 'round and 'round" of course referring to the minute-hands on the various clocks in the house (this before digital clocks were ubiquitous).

And Cher's song "If I Could Turn Back Time" obviously refers to the time in her life when she lived in Arizona, which has no Daylight Savings Time, and longing for that "fall back" she missed from when she lived in California.

Spaw - Whaddya mean it's 1958 in Orillia? Was that some kind of crack? OOOOO!!! OOOOO!!!!

Okay, wise guy, I'll tell ya what time it is in Orillia.

It's NOW. RIGHT now. Same as it is where you are.

All this clock stuff, AM, PM, and all that is a lot of nonsense. The only time it ever is is now. If I'm hungry now I eat. If I'm not I don't. Three minutes from now it will still be now. It has never been anything but now. The past and the future are 2 dreams that have no reality now, although they may bear some tenuous relation to now.

Now, bend over as far as you can and take a good look. If you are limber enough, you will see that your behind is divided into 2 parts...but it's still NOW. :-)

I have this vision of Perry Mason trying to figure out if a murder suspect left the bar at 2AM would he have enough time to kill two people and get back to finish his Guiness at 1AM. HMMMM.
