Unfortunate, hell; they've disqualified enough voters with their heebyjeeby forms to give Maine back to Bush and still put Gore in the White House. But Kendall would never stand for it!

From what I've been hearing over the last 2 days, election fraud in Florida is a way of life. It's just unfortunate for the perpetrators that the national attention is focused on them right now.

Still haven't learned your lesson yet, eh Kendall? What's your take on how often intelligent women get laid? Just curious...

Sadly, Ol' Spaw had to do a little hosp time and my biggest regret was not being here to play with the "Mudcat Talking Heads!" One helluva' race!

I think its also true that no one in the office of president at this point will be able to get anything too radical through the Congress. Its Republican, by the slimmest of margins, making it incumbent on all of us as Mick has said to voice our opinions even louder. There won't be much passed without a fight.

Gawd, I'm glad to be back and seeing all these responses. I particularly dislike both Ashcroft and Danforth from Missouri and to see Ashcroft beaten by Carnahan's wife was quite fulfilling. Sorry about Ohio, but this is the home of Taft Republicanism even though we have often gone with Democratic Senators. The presidential race was much closer here than most figured.

Spaw

If Bush wins the real winners will be the oil companies, and the pharmaceutical companies, and the HMO's, and the heavily polluting industries, and the land-denuding timber companies, and so forth.

The losers will be the environment, the poor, and the middle-class.

Welcome to the 1980's, mark II.

No one was really prepared for Gore winning the popular vote and losing the electoral.......and Florida seems to be only a couple of thousand difference!....

Mick is right, of course....we will keep on keeping on......but if Bush wins this, the REAL winners will be the political cartoonists!

You are, of course, correct Mick. I woke up this morning knowing that even if Ralph Nader pulled off the impossible and won the election, I would have a secure job, safe home, food on the table, and a normal life. I'm concerned about the long term effects our new president will have on the make up of the Supreme Court but life in the US will go on pretty much as usual. In that, we are blessed. I am staying.

Maybe, Mick, but it gets damn tiring. After eight years of Congress fucking around and blocking anything Clinton tried to do for the people, it's hard to keep hope alive. Of course, Wyoming exacerbates this so perhaps I'l feel better about it next Spring when we finally get the hell out of here.

I am however just busting buttons over pride for Hillary! What a womon!!

Something else, eh folks? First off, stop this crazy shit about puking and leaving. I have been in this thing since January, but this is electoral politics. If the Governor wins, he does so on one of the absolute slimmest margins ever, and probably not with the popular vote. To all of you who bitch and piss and moan about the dear old US of A, let me ask you a question. In many countries if the margin were this close one would be concerned about armed insurrection. Our amazing democracy has allowed this great Republic to pass the torch on (arguably) the most powerful chair to sit in in the world in a peaceful way. What will happen, will happen. It has been an amazing ride and the answer is a day or two away. If Dubya wins, then it is incumbent on those of us who are part of the loyal opposition to be there enunciating the differences in our positions and approaches. We all provide the stability and vitality of the system. Anyone who would leave instead of staying and carrying on just doesn't get representative democracy.

Mick

No real sleep last night. Up and down and every time I got a different report. The New York Post published a lovely red headline announcing "Bush Wins" then changes it to "Gore Changes His Mind" or some such nonsense. Now they are talking about a few thousand Gore votes in Florida accidentally credited to Buchanan by faulty machines and Joy Behar is claiming that the CIA under orders from former head George Bush has interfered with the vote in Florida. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ I need sleep.

I took a shot for my migraine.

I can't stand the tension, but giving up hope would be worse.

Alex, at least your state is doing better. WA numbers look much more encouraging.

Now we're at 48% Bush, 46% Gore here in the land of Tillamook cheese and the spotted owl, and the political analyst on the idiot box says that there are still a *lot* of votes to come in from Multnomah county, which has traditionally been solid for the Democrats.

So, why are the Floridians going to stop in the middle of the night when they should stay up all night counting votes like those of us on the west coast? Huh? I smell re-count...

I can't believe I'm getting my political news from a folk music forum.

How do they count the absentee ballots? Is it an electronic ballot that they scan? (I just have this image of tables full of League of Women Voters volunteers with pencils in their hands, making hash marks on white paper under the glare of the television cameras .... ) I mean, will they actually have them counted in the next few hours, or is this going to take some more time?

Voters, have close elections got you tied into a knot? Is your stomach churning, burning, yearning to breathe free? Reach for Ab-Cen-Tee antacids. Yes, Ab-Cen-Tee can turn an election upset ... stomach into a smooth situation. Cool, breezy, a little slow to be counted, but mighty in their own way, Ab-Cen-Tee antacids are available wherever mail-in ballots are allowed. Got more Gore than your stomach can handle? Has a burning Bush got you dancing the hot-foot? Get Ab-Cen-Tee antacids today. And tomorrow. And all next week.

Not available in all states.

The politician who lied about living at my sisters' address and was charged with two counts of voter fraud and could face up to 20 years in prison won here. Voters are a strange breed. I would suspect she will resign and teh GOP are breathing easier knowing they can put another patsy in her spot. It's disgusting.
