Hello All;

Hopefully I'm not bitting off more than.....well you know the rest....

I have 7 (or 8) old School music books, as early as 1945. As an example I will list a coupla'-few titles from one book, and I will list all titles if anyone would like... but pllleeeaassee don't ask for all the lyrics!! I will gladly look up (and post) and in time, key word there, time, get them all posted!

The following titles are some, out of "Music Around the World" (1958)

Above the Plain Ash Grove, The As the Sun Goes Down Banana Boat Loaders Blue-Tail Fly Casey Jones Chacarera Cockles and Mussels Donkey Cart, The Enchanted Isle Falling Star Flame Song Four Seasons Go Tell it on the Mountian Gum Tree Canoe Harvest Hymn I Ride an Old Paint In the Town I've got Sixpence John Dory Keemio Kimio Lilliburlero Lowlander, The Morning Walk, A Nelly Bly O Hanukah Paddy Works on the Railroad Peanut Vendor Red River Valley Rooster Chick Shawl Weaver's Spmg Sir Donkey Sourwood Mountian (I just posted that one 9/6-7/97) Tafta Hindi Tasty Pie, A Tutu Maramba Unhappy Owl, The Viking Song Wandering White Birch Zulu Warrior

If any one has any requests from this list could you just include the book name (Music Around the World), and blue book, I have 3 or 4 books by that title, different year, different color, easier to find! I know that some of the titles here are already listed in the data base, please check there first.

Now if all goes well this will post, you'll be able to find me, and I won't have to do this all over again!

Becky or O2bnmbr1 ;-)

Is this the same Zulu Warrior that is sung by rugby teams the world over? Reminds me of one of the "albums" on the Monty Python "Instant Record Collection" -- "I've Got A Beer Glass In Me Head And Other Rugby Songs".

T.J. mentions Rugby- I found this web site via the University of Idaho's Rugby Referee's site. Paul Bickerstaff, keeper of that database, cites the D.T. as a good place to pick up lyrics to Rugby songs. Rugby players the world over are great keepers of Tradition! It's a great experience to be in a bar when two teams get together that like to sing.

It's not a good thing to be in a bar when you the only bartender on duty when two rugby teams get together to sing.

As I recall, Zulu Warriors involves getting naked and jumping backwards off a table, or the bar, while your buddies sing the song.

Speaking of such drinking songs, I note that a search under @engineers does not bring up any of the usual suspects. The one about the Roman engineer was a jolly song but I can't remember the lyrics.

Let's get back to the topic, guys, and start a new thread for Rugby songs and anecdotes of that ilk [of which I have a few myself]. Becky's offer reminds me that an earlier thread had mentioned indexing songbooks, and this is in a way a start. What we need perhaps is a master list that could be compiled by someone with nothing else to do that could consolidate such lists as Becky's and pinpoint the book [and/or the person] to get hold of. I myself have been compiling for a long time an index of as many Scottish songbooks as I can find, broadening out into poems [with no visible tune] and tunes themselves; and latterly made a start on Irish and other songs. I've begun a French index also, which bids fair to cover a lot of stuff, in particular huge old things like La Cle des Chants of the 1800s. Do you think we could exchange info like this? Would it be in fact useful??

Hey Tim;

No I don't remeber any thing like you described, re. the Zulu Warrior.....but I don't think I'd mine watching!!!! ;-D

I looked to see if there was anything about Roman engineer(s), and sorry to say I didn't find any thing. I even lookes up in train songs, (in my books), and nothing. Sorry. Hope ya find it somewhere..

But If It's any interest to you or anyone else out there, I found some other songs, (again this is just the tip of that proverbial iceberg), that may be of interest:

Cousin Jedediah, Mule Skinner Blues, Clementine, O Susanna, Marines' Hymn, Aloha Oe, Santa Lucia, Bones, Jeanie with the Light Brown Hair, Yodeling Song, (Oh I'll have to find that post... I remember someone wanting yodel songs)

anyway there's hundreds more I'm gonna have to figure a way to post them all.... "OH--DICK!!!!!", gonna have to get in touch with him too! Happy hunting to all! Becky

I'm here. The Digital Tradition, over the years, has reflected the taste of all its contributors--not just mine. My best suggestion, Becky, is to share any songs that YOU like that we don't already have. I'll certainly ask if there's one I'm particularly interested in.
