Subject: Classical gtr: 'Fall of House of Usher' From: Grab Date: 20 Nov 00 - 11:31 AM A few years back now, I went to a classical guitar recital. The guy did this amazing piece called "The Fall of the House of Usher" - at least I think that was the name, it could have been "The Masque of the Red Death", but it was definitely an Edgar Allen Poe title. I can't remember the tune exactly, but it had a great theme to it which repeated through the piece. It built up to a big crescendo, and then the theme started again, but this time played entirely in harmonics so it sounded like a music-box. It blew me away completely, but I've never found anyone who knew it, and going back to the organiser a couple of years later, he couldn't remember it. Does this ring a bell for anyone here? and if so, do you know if anyone's recorded it? Cheers, Grab. |

Subject: RE: Help: Classical gtr: 'Fall of House of Usher' From: mousethief Date: 20 Nov 00 - 01:25 PM The only Fall of the House of Usher I know of is the one by the Alan Parsons Project on the "I Robot" album. It has a section on classical guitar. Perhaps someone has made a guitar-solo arrangement from this work? Parts are quite lovely. A search of peppermusic shows 2 pieces: one an opera by Philip Glass (ewww), and another an SATB choral work by Habash. Sorry I couldn't be of more assistance. Good luck!

Truly Poe put to music. rr |
