Subject: HELP Robin Williamson song?

Can anyone help with the words of this Robin Williamson song?

I don't think that The Incredible String Band ever recorded it but it featured in their live shows around 1970ish. The song has pleasant memories, as it was my mother's favourite when I took her to she them play at The London Palladium.

Fairport Convention were sharing the bill and my mum also liked 'that little bloke with the violin' (Dave Swarbrick).

This is what I can remember of the first verse and chorus?

Build the loveless mansions
With the shapeless bricks of time
Friends they fall like wispy mist
No policy's I'll find
Lovers also go their way

Won't you come see me?
Won't you come see me?
Won't you please?
Won't you come see me?
Some sweet day?

Hi, Shambles
Always glad to help out with things Stringy!!
As far as I can decipher the words from a very old and well-worn reel-to-reel, they go like this:

Build a loving mansion
With the shapeless bricks of time
Friends they change like whispy mist
No promises I´ll bind
Lovers also go their way

Wont you come see me (3x)
Some sweet day

Love lies on my shoulder
A cathederal and a tower
Curled on my belly
Like a whale in the sun
Dying flowers ache for rain

If I were very clever
I would state it very clear
All love is so huge
Its shouting in my ear
Leaves me thinking with my body
For a change

Incidentaly, my mother(not the most musical person in the world!)has always liked "This Moment". Positivly hated Fairport, though. The first and last last concert we ever went to together!

Hope this helped and wishing you all the best,
John

Lough Foyle lyrics here.

Many thanks John. Very impressed. Was it ever recorded, do you know? I was not too far out, was I? Were you and your mother at the same concert as me and my mother then?

I am listening to the radio session, as I write. October Song. Interesting version......Robin never did like to do the songs the same way twice.

This is a verse from 'Lough Foyle'.

To Northern Ireland for summer training
Near to Lough Foyle not far from Derry town
To get the feel of the regular army
and generally act the bloody clown
To eat melodious beans and gravy
To sleep on old grey blankets stiff with stains
and on the carsy in the morning
To squat in rows like cows with labor pains

Thanks to both. Now I understand why that prude Scottish friend of mine didn't want to help me with the lyrics (when she got to that part about khaki and scratching here and there). Honest, thanks indeed.
