Subject: Hear "He Voted for Nader"
From: Linda Allen
Date: 28 Nov 00 - 11:03 PM

Dear Friends, Now this is my final, last word on the current political situation...probably...maybe. When all the votes are in, I still hope I've created a song that will be obsolete soon! "He Voted For Nader" has been recorded with the help of Brett Lovins (he plays the second guitar on the recording). Words are mine...tune is "Satisfied Mind". It's on my Mp3.com site, so that you can hear it streaming, and won't need to take the time to download it. If you have a dial-up connection, play it on LoFi. HiFi is for those with high speed connections. Or just go ahead and click the download option if you know you want a high quality version that you can listen to over and over. With a telephone internet connection you are looking at about a 20 minute wait to download it You can hear other songs from my recordings at the mp3.com site as well.

Here's the link: http://www.mp3.com/lindaallen

Another announcement: Women's Work is being re-issued and will be ready as a CD within about two weeks. All my recordings can be found by visiting my web site, linked to the Mp3.com site or by clicking here:

http://www.lindasongs.com.

CD's make great gifts! The site also contains information about tours and workshops. Thanks, Mudcatters. Hope you enjoy the song. Linda

Linda, you gotta code links in html for them to display as official Mudcat Blue Clicky Things.

Now I'll go check out your song.

Best, Your fellow mudcatter/mp3.com artist

Hi, Willie - How do I go about coding the links for them to display? I tried to figure it out -- but finally thought you just couldn't do it through Mudcat. Your advice would be much appreciated! Thanks - Linda

*grimace* Not even close. Let's try it again (and test it this time, fool!)

Easy as pie, Linda. You just type the HTML in. The HTML tag for a "blue clicky" is the

<A ...> tag.

For example, the code Willie-O used to create that link to your album is

<A HREF="http://www.mp3.com/lindaallen">http://www.mp3.com/lindaallen</A>

When I actually type in the above (I had to use special codes to make the less-than and greater-than signs actually appear instead of being HTML), you see:

http://www.mp3.com/lindaallen

One thing to note is that the second appearance of the URL -- the one OUTSIDE the tags -- is ONLY what shows on-screen. The first appearance -- the one in quotes and inside the opening

<A> tag is what tells the browser where to actually GO when the link is clicked. For example,

<A HREF="http://www.mp3.com/lindaallen">Here is Linda's album</A>
Here is Linda's album

goes to exactly the same link as the first one.

I know there's a big discussion about using HTML in thread postings, but I'm not sure where it is. One of the Perma-Threads I think, but I don't know off the top of my head.

BB,
NightWing

I believe most of the relevant information ins in the newcomers FAQ at the top of the page, if not, I KNOW the links to it are.

that's the teal "perma-thread" - right at the top of the list of threads.

Linda-- Any chance you could post the words to the song? My dinosaur equipment doesn't allow me to deal with audio stuff at this point, and even if it did, it would probably take me most of the time remaining between now and Inauguration Day (hopefully the ultimate deadline for this topic...) to transcribe it. Thanks! --Nancy

Hi, Nancy -
Here you are -- please forgive the lack of line breaks. Next time I post a song I promise I'll figure out how to do that!
Thanks for asking -
Linda

He Voted for Nader
Words: Linda Allen Tune: Satisfied Mind by Red Hays & Jack Rhodes

He voted for Nader She voted for Gore
She said, "It's all your fault What we're headin' for
Take the kids to the cellar Douse the lights, bolt the door
Why didn't you listen And just vote for Gore

I know you're a dreamer But look what you've done
Big business run riot Every man with a gun
Pollution so heavy We'll scarce draw a breath
No pure water flowing And no forests left

Now Nader's a good guy We all did agree
He'd fight for the planet Halt the forces of greed
But there was no point in voting For a guy can't win
But you voted your conscience And Bush shuffled in

Now our friends and our neighbors Know that you were the one
They're coming to get you For the bad thing you done
And I used to love you But I don't any more
You voted for Nader I voted for Gore

Linda---Hi !

Really a fine document. Well balanced. A sad reflection on cause and effect, scapegoating and blame, human nature and revenge---the roll of chaos always lurking in the ongoing drama. So life-like. In the gestalt of it, you leave more unsaid than said--and you seem to infer, like Pogo, that "We have met the enemy and they is us". Like the election, it seems you leave the ending open---but that's like all of life too.

That's how it reads to me. Hope I'm getting a few of the points you intended.

I've admired your songs for a long time. Keep on keepin' on...

A fan !

Nice song.

They just had Nader on the box here in England - far more convincing then What's His Name who won and What's His Name who didn't.

If I was an American, I'd be blaming all the people who didn't vote for Nader, and let one of the other two non-entities slip in, or not, as the case may be.

First past the post is a crummy way of voting in any country.

But a nice song anyway, and that's ultimately more important.
