Subject: The Roches reunite! From: LR Mole Date: 29 Nov 00 - 11:08 AM For you glittering urbanites in the Big Apple, news reaches me that Maggie, Terre, and Suzzi Roche will sing together for the first time in three and a half years on the seventh of December, at Battery Park in Manhattan (said to be "way, way down, near the Bowery"). Thing starts at 5:45.Those of us for whom these sisters'lovely voices locking together on a chord is one of the reasons the earth is good are happy about this. |

Subject: RE: The Roches reunite! From: Mrrzy Date: 29 Nov 00 - 11:27 AM This is great! I love them - I kind of think of them as the US' answer to the McGarrigles... For those of you who don't know, they "are Maggie and Terre and Suzzi, Maggie and Terre and Suzzi Roche, we don't give out our ages, and we don't give out our phone numbers... sometimes our voices give out, but not our ages and our phone numbers!" |

Subject: RE: The Roches reunite! From: Dale Rose Date: 29 Nov 00 - 12:18 PM Oh, yeah! I get out my old Roches video every now and then. Do you know anybody famous????? And The Hallelujah Chorus which they make sound as though there are about 15 of them. Great stuff! Don't think I'll make it to New York though. |

Subject: RE: The Roches reunite! From: LR Mole Date: 29 Nov 00 - 01:24 PM I'd like a concert review too, since I'll be trapped in sweet New England attending to in-laws and limping dogs. |

Subject: RE: The Roches reunite! From: Dale Rose Date: 29 Nov 00 - 02:35 PM It was a tape I made from PBS years ago ~~ wasn't ACL, but another show that was current at the time, the name won't come to me at the moment. (On Stage, Back Stage, Front Stage, ??????? Seems like it was taped in Chicago) I am not exactly sure where the tape is right now either, but I do know that (sadly) it is not complete. Back then tapes were expensive, and I copied out just what I considered to be the best parts, something I would never have done in more recent years, especially since tapes have dipped under a dollar apiece. I do remember paying the better part of a twenty way back when, so there were LOTS of slp and edited tapes in those early years. Now I have more tapes than I know what to do with, or to find, for that matter. I'll try to dig it out and give a report. It needs watching again anyway.
As to which two made the record, that is easy ~~ the older two before Suzzie was old enough to join them, at least that is the way I heard it.

Subject: RE: The Roches reunite! From: LR Mole Date: 30 Nov 00 - 08:58 AM LP with just M and T is called "Seductive Reasoning". I've got it in vinyl but doubt it made it to CD. They're also the backup vocals on "Was a Sunny Day" on the "There Goes Rhymin' Simon" LP..... Mr. Know-It-All Mole |

Subject: RE: The Roches reunite! From: Mark Cohen Date: 30 Nov 00 - 05:34 PM I went to see Steve Goodman in concert in Philadelphia back in 1979 or so, when I was a pediatric resident. The announcer for the opening act said, "Ladies and Gentlemen, please welcome The Roaches!" and I thought, Oh, no, why is there a punk rock band opening for Steve? Needless to say, I soon learned that the "a" was superfluous and the music was magical. One of the reasons I'm trying to find a turntable that works. Trivia question: which one tried to get fixed up with Amy Irving's pickle man? Aloha, Mark |
