Subject: Have Yourself a Napster Little Christmas From: Clinton Hammond2 Date: 02 Dec 00 - 01:17 PM Any suggestuions for songs to nab folks? Besides the obvious hits like Elvis, "Blue Christmas" and Bowie and Bing's, "Little Drummer Boy"? I'd suggest Jethro Tulls, "A Christmas Song", and "Another Christmas Song"... Then Danny Carnahan's, "Dram To Warm The Piper"
What are your suggestions? ;-) |

Subject: RE: Have Yourself a Napster Little Christmas From: Clinton Hammond2 Date: 03 Dec 00 - 10:37 PM Fairytale Of New York is better by Christy Moore... any other suggestions folks? |
Subject: RE: Have Yourself a Napster Little Christmas From: Matt_R Date: 03 Dec 00 - 11:09 PM No, it's better by Kirsty & Shane. The two-person banter works so much better than one. |
Subject: RE: Have Yourself a Napster Little Christmas From: Thyme2dream Date: 03 Dec 00 - 11:46 PM If you have never heard the Trans Siberian Orchestra, you should at least give them a listen...My favorite song from their Christmas CD is 'Christmas Eve Sarajevo 24-12' (sometimes Carol of the Bells on napster files)...it mixes Carol of the Bells with God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen--instrumental, a full orchestra with this amazing electric guitar soaring through the mix...very intense and passionate and and and...(okay, I like it a bit can you tell?) They also do one called 'The Mad Russians Christams' which starts out with silent night, and then blends several themes from the Nutcracker Suite. I am certainly not trying to pass this off as folk, but it is very interesting IMHO. If you like Jethro Tull, what about 'Ring Solstice Bells' from Songs from the Wood? I'm also quite fond of that old Smother's Brother's parody of the Twelve Days of Christmas, but can't remember the title..anybody else remember that one? When I was a little girl, my dad had Tennesee Ernie Ford's Christmas album, and his version of 'Do You Hear What I Hear' was beautiful. |
Subject: RE: Have Yourself a Napster Little Christmas From: Clinton Hammond2 Date: 04 Dec 00 - 01:36 AM Matt... ya ya ya... blah blah blah... yer entitled to your opinion, and I'm entitled to mine... Solstice Bells, to me is a standard... I came here looking for slightly more obscure suggestions... Found a good one by Kevin "Bloody" Wilson called hey "Santa Claus You C@nt"!! LOL!! Too funny... but deffinatly not for grandma... There's a piano album called December... but I can't remember the nake of the dude who's playing it... used to have it in the dance studio... really great mellow stuff... Any ideas there Catters?? ;-) |
Subject: RE: Have Yourself a Napster Little Christmas From: Metchosin Date: 04 Dec 00 - 03:48 AM Check out some of the recordings by the Night Heron Consort, Chanticleer and stuff on the Windam Hill Celtic Christmas albums. |
Subject: RE: Have Yourself a Napster Little Christmas From: Brendy Date: 04 Dec 00 - 05:38 AM It's OK, Matt. Maybe Clinton likes calling himself "A scumbag and maggot, and cheap lousy faggot" He's entitled to. B. |
Subject: RE: Have Yourself a Napster Little Christmas From: Matt_R Date: 04 Dec 00 - 09:42 AM Yo CLinton, the guy you're thinking of is the awesome George Winston, and his 1982 album December. I love all his stuff...closing in on owning it all. |

This so takes me back to my days at the dance studio... If only my body hadn't given out and religated me to the folk singer world... ;-) |
Subject: RE: Have Yourself a Napster Little Christmas From: SDShad Date: 04 Dec 00 - 02:27 PM "It Feels Like Christmas," "A Thankful Heart," and "One More Sleep 'Til Christmas," all from "A Muppet Christmas Carol." Subject: RE: Have Yourself a Napster Little Christmas From: Clinton Hammond2 Date: 04 Dec 00 - 02:36 PM The Christmas Scat from that movie makes we weapy everytime I hear it!!! And I downed everything except for Mr. Caine singing... blech! |
Subject: RE: Have Yourself a Napster Little Christmas From: simon-pierre Date: 04 Dec 00 - 02:56 PM If you have a good sense of humor, you may check for "minuit chrétien" by the band "barf" on Napster. Be aware: it's not really folk (or it's really not folk). SP |
Subject: RE: Have Yourself a Napster Little Christmas From: SDShad Date: 04 Dec 00 - 02:58 PM True, Clinton, he's not much of a singer, but "A Thankful Heart" is such a lovely song I downloaded it anyway. We're using the music from "A Muppet Christmas Carol" for our local church's production of "A Christmas Carol," and it really holds up outside of the context of the movie. (And no, we're not using their dialogue, just their music, well, except for the "large, absent-minded spirit" bit with the Spirit of Christmas Present, a.k.a. me). Chris |
Subject: RE: Have Yourself a Napster Little Christmas From: Clinton Hammond2 Date: 04 Dec 00 - 03:17 PM That version of TGoCP is the absolute best!! Gotta love the big, red-headed, red-bearded sensualists eh..... Huh? Oh... ya... too much self promotion.. sorry... [-: |
Subject: RE: Have Yourself a Napster Little Christmas From: SDShad Date: 04 Dec 00 - 05:40 PM Well, being by nature and personal grooming habits a bit of a big, red-headed, red-bearded sensualist, who am I to disagree? Look upon me--you have never seen the like of me before, Shad

Subject: RE: Have Yourself a Napster Little Christmas From: Jon Freeman Date: 04 Dec 00 - 06:25 PM Fairy Tale of New York (Pogues version) for me but no "Wish It Could Be Christmas Every Day", I get sick of hearing that at Christmas as I do Slade's "So Here It Is Merry Christmas" which if my muddled memory serves me correctly came out the same year as Wizard's hit and was the managed to gain the Christmas number one that year. Jon |
