Subject: Guitar Saver From: Llanfair Date: 06 Dec 00 - 04:07 AM I noticed during the gatherings that there was a gadget being used to anchor a guitar or banjo to a table when not in use. Our local music shop not only doesn't stock them, but have never heard of them. Where can I get one, and how much are they? And, whatever you do, DON'T TELL DALEK!!!!!!! Cheers, Bron. |

Subject: RE: Guitar Saver From: bill\sables Date: 06 Dec 00 - 04:52 AM Bron, I have one a friend of mine made made many years ago from a table tennis clamp and a bit of curved metal. I told him to patent the idea but it was too much trouble for him. Since then a company has patented his idea and produced what they call a "Bar Prop" I think. Geoff The Duck uses one. I am sure they can be got at Music Room in Cleckheaton if so Eric the Viking will probably get you one and send it to you. Cheers Bill |

Subject: RE: Guitar Saver From: KingBrilliant Date: 06 Dec 00 - 05:03 AM Hi Bron I saw some of these at Bedworth Fest, and just got Mark to read me out the advert from the program. As follows: Table mounte3d supports for necked instruments. Made by a company called Briarmill. Mail order : Send a cheque for £11.95 made out to Briarmill. Address is : PO Box 35 Ashton-u-lyne Lancs OL7 9FJ Tel: 0161 3304555 You'd need to give your name, address and phone number. Also specify which logo you want on the pouch it comes in (out of 'pub-prop' or 'table-top prop'). That's one option anyway. May not be the one you've seen, but they looked OK on the stall. Basically a sort of clamp thing to attach to the table & a gated thingy to bung the neck of the instrument into. Probably best to give them a ring... Kris |

Subject: RE: Guitar Saver From: Llanfair Date: 06 Dec 00 - 06:21 AM I was sure I had responded, but I must have been distracted....... I have talked to the nice man atBriarmill, and the gadgets are in the post. He even gave me a discount!!! Nice work, Bill and Kris, and thanks a lot. Cheers, Bron. |

Subject: RE: Guitar Saver From: Lady McMoo Date: 06 Dec 00 - 06:26 AM Yes these are invaluable devices if you play in sessions. I've seen more instruments than I care to mention get knocked over and sometimes damaged. A very worthwhile investment. mcmoo |

Subject: RE: Guitar Saver From: Grab Date: 06 Dec 00 - 03:10 PM A friend is the Cambridge agent for Pub Props. £15 each IIRC. I say "agent" - actually he's a mate of the guy who makes them so he's just got a few dozen sat at home ready to flog to anyone at a session who asks, but anyway... Grab. |

Subject: RE: Guitar Saver From: Llanfair Date: 06 Dec 00 - 03:43 PM I suspect that people I come in contact with will want them, too, though, I'm not paying that much for mine,Grab!!! Hiya, Eric, how are you doing? Cheers, Bron. |

Subject: RE: Guitar Saver From: Seamus Kennedy Date: 06 Dec 00 - 09:20 PM I don't believe I've seen one of these devices here in the States, and I could use one. Can any of you do a blue clicky with a picture, please. All the best. Seamus |

Subject: RE: Guitar Saver From: Steve Parkes Date: 07 Dec 00 - 11:27 AM I saw one a couple of years ago - a Geordie guy had one at St Neots' Festival (many miles away from home). I meant to ask him where he got it, but never did. Then I pesterd every music shop in the Midlands, and they all said "if you find out who makes 'em, tell us!". But I never did. In the end I cobbled one together from a metal spring clip (£1, Walsall market) and the forked bit of a guitar hanger I got from a music shop fo a tenner. The first time I used it in public, somebody said "I know a chap who sells them". There's no justice! Steve P.S. Since then, they've taken all the tables out of the club room at the pub, so I can't use it anyway! |

Subject: RE: Guitar Saver From: Songster Bob Date: 07 Dec 00 - 02:13 PM John Pearse (the string-maker & guitarist) makes a similar item that basically hangs the guitar on the edge of a shelf or similar horizontal edge, without needing to clamp it. I suspect you could use Pearse's cantilevered gadget on tables. I'm going to John's website to see if it'd work. Be right back. It's called the "D'Angle," and it might or might not work on a table. It looks like it requires the instrument to rest against a vertical surface to be stable. You can see them at: http://www.jpstrings.com/braccess.htm I'd ask John, if 'twere me. In fact, I think I may just do that. [Possibly more on this later.] Bob Clayton |

Subject: RE: Guitar Saver From: Songster Bob Date: 08 Dec 00 - 01:08 PM Well, I checked, and the D'Angle, as it's called, is a nifty device, but it does need some support behind the instrument. To quote: "The D'angle must have a back behind it, otherwise it will swing inward. It needs the support. The guitar hangs securely because of physics. The weight of the instrument holds it in place." So it wouldn't work on a table, but would work fine on a bookcase or shelf, as long as there is a wall or some other vertical element for the back of the guitar, etc., to rest against. I suppose it might work on a table if you positioned the instrument against the table leg. I may just get one to see how it works. The picture shows something that looks great. A keen use of the laws of physics. Bob Clayton |

Subject: RE: Guitar Saver From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 09 Dec 00 - 09:07 AM Here is a kink to Brian Rathmill's Pup Prop site, with a picture and all. It's a brilliant little device, and he has an adaptor that will fit it for fiddles or mandolins etc. And other crafty devices.

Subject: RE: Guitar Saver From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 11 Dec 00 - 12:29 PM Note, for example, the beermug holder for clamping to a mike. Stops you kicking it over when you're trying to act like you aren't as old as you look. |

Subject: RE: Guitar Saver From: Seamus Kennedy Date: 12 Dec 00 - 02:36 AM McGrath, thanks a million for the blue clicky. I'll look into getting one or more of these clever little devices. All the best Seamus |
