I also had an unfortunate accident with my Huggies tape. I listened to it into my adulthood as well and adored it. I'm 23 and I lost it a couple of years ago when my CD/tape player got stolen. :( My name is DAWN. I am begging you, I want that tape back so bad.. If you have one, my email address is DarkgirlDD@aol.com Thank you. :)

I see a couple have already mentioned Gartan MOther's Lullaby, one of my favourite songs to perform. but I've always felt it a rather scary song for kids, maybe doing Luke Kelly's version makes it sound a bit darker and more serious!

I still have my tape...it's lasted 23 years and I play it for my niece and nephew occasionally when they spend the night. I would be so sad if my cassette were ruined, so if I ever transfer it to a digital file I will email it to those of you who asked for it...sadly I don't have the same name as any of you who have already posted; mine is Anna.

Various posts above (although fairly old ones...!) have asked about a partially remembered lullaby including the words 'Would you like the moon to play with? or the stars to run away with?'

These actually form the chorus of 'Ma Curly Headed Babby' by George H Clutsam (1866 - 1951), popularised by Paul Robeson in the 1920s/30s.

The words as I know them (learnt as a child from my mum, who learnt them as a child from her parents) are:

Lulla lulla lulla lulla bye bye,
Do you want the moon to play with?
Or the stars to run away with?
They'll come if you don't cry.
Lulla lulla lulla lulla bye bye,
In mummy's arms a-creeping,
Sonn you'll be a sleeping,
Lulla lulla lulla lulla bye.

I only know the chorus, though a quick google search would find the verses too.

Part of the reason I know the background is because I've recently recorded & released a CD of nursery songs, rhymes and lullabies, and this one is on it! See http://www.arrowsmithmusic.co.uk for details.

I grew up listening to the Huggies/Playskool Lullabies tape. I had no clue what it was until just now when I googled some of the lyrics though. When I was really little, I even thought it was my dad. Anyway, I thought I had lost that tape....

Today, my family gathered to celebrate my 23rd birthday. As we were leaving the restaurant, my dad walked up to my car and handed me a cd with my name on it and told me to play it on the way home. As soon as it started playing, I started sobbing like a baby (to my boyfriend's surprise and confusion). Being tucked into bed while that tape played is one of the most important memories in the world to me, and it means even more than my dad will ever know. That he would do that meant the world to me. I might be an adult now, but I will always be my parents' baby girl.

Hi Susan.

I played that tape for my son Paul, who's now 23 and I wish I had the tune to the Dreamland song. Do you think you can send a audio file to my email? I would appreciate it very much. You can't get any info on it except the lyrics. I tried to no avail.

Thanks.
Paul

This one hasn't been mentioned. Easy chords that I never transcribed, since I knew them:

        PONY MAN
By Gordon Lightfoot

(first & last)
When it's midnight on the meadow and the cats are in the shed,

And the river tells a story at the window by my bed;

If you listen very closely, be as quiet as you can,

In the yard you'll hear him, he is the Pony Man.

We're always there to great him when he tumbles into town,
He leads a string of ponies, some are white and some are brown.
And they never seem to kick or bite, they only want to play,
And they live on candy apples instead of oats and hay.

And when we are assembled, he gives us our command,
And we climb aboard our ponies as in a row they stand.
Then down the road we gallop and across the field we fly,
And soon we all go sailing off into the midnight sky.

And as we gaily walk along beside a ripplin' sea,
There's Tom and Dick and Sally, and Mary Jo and me,
And the Pony Man is leading cause he's traveled here before,
And a give a whoop and holler at Mister Moon's front door.

And then we stop to rest awhile where the soda river glides,
Up to the slip come the pirate ship to take us for a ride.
And the Pony Man's the captain and the children are the crew,
And we go in search of treasure and laugh the whole night through.

And when the hold is filled with gold, and the sailors begin to stray,
And the Deck's piled high with apple pie, we head for port again.
And down the whirling starcase, so swift our ponies fly,
And we're safely in our beds again when the sunbeams kiss the sky.

I JUST (now, on May 8) turned on my Huggies tape for the first time in over 10 years. I am now 23, as are many of you Huggies-Tape-Lovers. I recorded myself singing (I am not a professional singer- duh) to my little boy. I also got all teary. And I remembered almost all the words.

I had the same tape and it had my name in it! The tape doesn't work so well anymore, but I listened to that every night when I went to sleep. It's funny that you can only remember the same lyrics that I can. I can't remember any more than that.

Hi everyone,
I'm not sure how many people will actually see this, but I finally got my Huggies/Playskool tape fixed and converted to CD. Although it's a little scratchy (particularly at the beginning), if anyone wants the audio file, I'd be glad to send it.

It is under my name, Jessica, but i know some people just wanted any name. You can e-mail me at jessie_linn@yahoo.com and PLEASE put "Huggies/Playskool Tape" as the subject so I don't think it's spam.

I'll try and get around to looking at all the e-mail addresses posted here who wanted a copy these past few years and send it out to them too. Love having my music back :)

If you are singing someone to sleep, a song that almost always works is "The Band Played Waltzing Matilda" I know it isn't a lullaby but the babies don't seem to mind and if you sing it quietly and slowly they are asleep before you have finished.

If you have a baby that has a real problem dropping off then you might try Terry Woodford's wonderful heartbeat lullabyes here

Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Lullabye (Goodnight My Angel)
From: GUEST,MorwenEdhelwen1
Date: 29 Nov 13 - 12:40 AM

So for my first post on here in months, I decided to post a lullaby I'm surprised no-one has posted here yet. It's from Billy Joel's River of Dreams album and was written for his daughter when his second marriage was failing. She asked him "What happens when people die?" but was actually asking whether she'd see her father again after her parents divorced. Billy wrote this song to answer his daughter's question and as an expression of his love for her.

I love it not only because I'm an unashamed Billy Joel fan but because it's such a good lullaby and gives me warm fuzzy feelings. It's got a lovely tune too.

Lullabye (Goodnight, My Angel)"

Words and Music by Billy Joel
From River of Dreams (1993)

Goodnight, my angel
Time to close your eyes
And save these questions for another day
I think I know what you've been asking me
I think you know what I've been trying to say
I promised I would never leave you
And you should always know
Wherever you may go
No matter where you are
I never will be far away

Goodnight, my angel
Now it's time to sleep
And still so many things I want to say
Remember all the songs you sang for me
When we went sailing on an emerald bay
And like a boat out on the ocean
I'm rocking you to sleep
The water's dark
And deep inside this ancient heart
You'll always be a part of me

Goodnight, my angel
Now it's time to dream
And dream how wonderful your life will be
Someday your child may cry
And if you sing this lullabye
Then in your heart
There will always be a part of me

Someday we'll all be gone
But lullabyes go on and on...
They never die
That's how you
And I
Will be
