SOUP
Get off the bus and I can see my breath
CHO: It smells like winter at our house
When my Dad was a kid in my Grandma's home
All day I hear it simmering in the pot
Bean soup, chicken soup with macaroni
So it doesn't even matter if the cold winds blow |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Smells like Winter, Smells Like Soup From: GUEST,LynnT Date: 18 Dec 00 - 03:25 PM You're right that it's a John M song; you may have heard the nifty version done by a DC-area group called Hot Soup; I believe they have a CD out with that on it, as well as a bunch of other stuff with nice tight jazzy harmonies. "It smells like winter at our house -- it smells like SOUP" Lynn T, lucky enough to hear these ladies regularly at local venues... |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Smells like Winter, Smells Like Soup From: Mrrzy Date: 18 Dec 00 - 10:15 AM It was on the show called Acoustic Cafe, Fri and Sun 8-midnight on WMRA in Central Virginia, but I recommend the show to everyone who gets NPR. FYI. |
Subject: Smells like Winter, Smells Like Soup From: Mrrzy Date: 18 Dec 00 - 09:43 AM Heard on NPR, it was a great song, woman singer, don't know the name. It was about, oddly enough, soup, and how great it is in the wintertime. I remember part of the chorus listed all kinds of soup, "potato soup tomato soup da da da dam, ...soup ...soup split pea with ham..." I've searched the trad and the NPR site, no go. Would like complete lyrics and name of singer or group. This was part of an all-acoustic section heard I think last night, but it might have been the night before. Thanks, all! -MrrWhoWantsSoupForLunchOnThisColdDay |
