What kind of music? Any or all? The Great Plains Dulcimer Alliance is based in Wichita, and has monthly jams and a Web page. The Kansas Bluegrass Association (family membership/newsletter $12.00/yr.) also has a Website (www.kansasbluegrass.org), and monthly "jamming picnics" when the weather allows, as well as the "Winterfest" indoor festival (to be held at the Marriott February 16/17, 2001). The Kansas Acoustic Arts Association is also live and well, as is the Wichita Blues Association.

If you are interested in playing with old time musicians--country music from the '40's to the '70's, you might try several of the monthly meetings/programs of the Kansas Old Time Fiddlers, Pickers, and Singers. You get to play three songs, jam a little, or back-up others. Chapters in the Wichita area are Ark City, El Dorado, Yates Center, and Sedan. You might e-mail Mike Herb, the State President, [e-mail] for more details or specific people to contact. I'm a member of the Marmaton Valley chapter in Ft Scott, but that is a little far.

Knicke, Whereabouts in C. KS are you going to school? I went to Bethel. There's a contradance group in Newton. I'll bet you could hook up with some musicians around there. There's also the Iron Horse in El Dorado, and I guess you know about the Artichoke in Wichita. Hope that gets you started. If you are interested, PM me & I'll get you the name of the contact of the Newton contradance.

Come down to OKC some time to visit with us at the Oklahoma City Traditional Music Assn Click here

We meet on the 1st Sat of each month. From 6:00 to 7:30 pm we have various workshops, quite informal, and jams. From 8:00 to 10:00 we gather in the auditorium for the playaround, where members and visitor/guests sign up to perform while the rest of us listen and enjoy. At 10:00 we break up into numerous jams. They kick us out of the City Arts Center at mid-night.
Of course, many of us go to the Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield, KS each Sept.

moved to Wash DC area FROM Wichita in 1977...I doubt that I know anyone anymore...but with Winfield so close, I'll bet you find some.

If you go to the Quick Links at the top of this page, then, on the pull-down menu, choose Mudcat Resources, then choose Mudcat Locator, when you get to the Resources page, you will see JL in Ozland and Soddy are both listed in Kansas. You can also click here to get to the same page. **BG**

I don't recall seeing any recent postings from JL, but I know soddy is around. I think he changed his posting name to his 3D world name, Jim Krause, if I remember rightly.

In the Mudcat Locator, we usually do not list specific towns, as anyone has access to it.
