OK, I know this is an old thread, but just in case anyone else out there was looking for these chords in desperation as I was, I thought that I should supply them to the best that I was able to figure them out. Sorry if the chords aren't directly above the right words.

Josh

Gentle Annie
G                           C      D         G
Fair and lovely Annie, your gentle ways have won me.
G                           Em            D
You bring peace and joy and laughter everywhere.
          G               Em                G
Where you go the sunshine follows, you're a breath of spring in
Em
winter
       G                  D             G
And my heart and soul are always in your care.
       G      Em    G    Em      G                  D
Gentle Annie, Gentle Annie, and my heart and soul are always in your
G
care.

Thanks all for the lyrics Joe, and to all for your input...that's the song I was looking for. After reading all your comments I had to check further and, while my browser didn't crash, it is quite a site! Ed, I should be able to work out the rest from the chords you provided.

Here are the lyrics from the other site, so people don't have to risk crashing their browsers.

Gentle Annie
By
Tommy Makem

Fair and lovely Annie, your gentle ways have won me.
You bring peace and joy and laughter everywhere.
Where you go the sunshine follows, you're a breath of spring in winter
And my heart and soul are always in your care.

Gentle Annie, Gentle Annie, and my heart and soul are always in your care.

When you touch me with your fingers, my cares and worries vanish
Like the morning dew before the rising sun,
When your eyes tell me you love me, then my soul is filled with wonder
And my love for you will live when life is done.

Gentle Annie, Gentle Annie, and my love for you will live when life is done.

You're the flower among the flowers, you're the birdsong in the morning,
You're the laughter of the children at their play.
You're my hope and joy and wisdom, you're my reason just for living,
You're my treasure, you're my very night and day.

Gentle Annie, Gentle Annie, you're my treasure, you're my very night and day.

When the mountains all come tumbling and the earth has stopped its turning,
When the winds don't blow and stars refuse to shine,
When the moon has left the heavens, and the seven seas are empty,
I will still have Gentle Annie on my mind.

Gentle Annie, Gentle Annie, I will still have Gentle Annie on my mind.

True, you did.  The odd thing is that I found that site earlier on through Google and had no trouble with it; when I used your link, bad things happened.  One of life's wee mysteries...

The Makem song is not related to Foster's or its Australian variants, but does have the same title.  Be careful of that site with the embedded soundfile, by the way; it crashed my browser trying to load a non-existent plugin, and froze the whole blasted computer!

There appears to be 3 versions of the song 1. Gentle Annie- Stephen Foster 2. An Austrailion version. Probably brought there from the US 3. THe Carter Family has a song on the Cassette of there complete Victor recordings 1929-1930 called "When the spring time comes again" The liner notes as follows "Sara recalls just another old song, When The Springtime comes Again was the one she knew as Little Annie. She learned it frim a neighbor of A.P's who gave them the Ballet" 9i.e. the written word or printed lyrics0

My curiosity got the better of me and I waited for the sound file to download. Despite the long download, it's only 2 lines of the song. For this bit, the chords are roughly:

                F                        Dm                    Am                 C
When the moon has left the heavens, and the seven seas are empty
         F                      C                 F
I will still have Gentle Annie on my mind

Hopefully that will help you work out the rest.

Ed

You can find the lyrics at this site.

Be warned though, the page author has embedded a wav file of the song as a background sound. Arrrghh!

Hence the page takes ages to open. Quite how long, I'm not sure as I gave up.

Press 'stop' after the lyrics have loaded. Sorry I can't find the chords.

I'm not sure which version IvanB sings on PalTalk, but it's certainly worth a listen!

Hi, Dan - can you remember any phrases from that song that will help us lead you to the one you're seeking?

I'm aware of the DT and Stephen Foster versions but I'm looking for another version written and sung by Tommy Makem. I can probably get the lyrics down by listening to it but I can never figure out chords? Can anyone help?

Dan
