Does anybody know anything about Mandolins made by Michelle Maratea in Naples? The one I have seen had a fluted back and lots of lovely pearl inlay. It was probably made in the first half of the 20th century. I'd like to know dates and any more info. Are they still being made today?

Tig - I don't want to discount the vast amount of info you can find here at the mudcat but you might also want to post your question over at the forum at www.mandolincafe.com. I'll bet some of the classical musicians there would know about these. Good luck.

I have a Maratea mandolin but the label inside bears the name RAFFAEL MARATEA can anyone tell me what the relation is to Michelle Maratea. The mandolin was made in 1896.
Thanks
