Subject: Help: transfer from cassettes to cd-rw From: artbrooks Date: 03 Feb 01 - 07:37 PM I have a lot of favorites on cassettes (and on LPs) that I want to transfer to CDs. (I also need to put a CD-RW on my PC, but that's hopefully a minor problem.) Can this be done without a major investment in electronics and dubbing equipment? How? |

Subject: RE: Help: transfer from cassettes to cd-rw From: Joe Offer Date: 04 Feb 01 - 04:56 AM Freddie linked to one page of the CD-Recordable FAQ. Click here to get to the table of contents. It's the best CD-R guide I've seen. I got a kick out of section 7, which tells what happens when you put a CD in a microwave (don't you even think of doing that with my microwave). It also gives a list of nifty things you can do with all your CD-R's that don't record right. -Joe Offer- |
Subject: RE: Help: transfer from cassettes to cd-rw From: GUEST,Rana Date: 04 Feb 01 - 08:48 AM I've mentioned this program before - Audiotools (I've nothing to do with the product) web page is http://www.unrelatedinventions.com/Audiotools/ I've found it to be easy, undergone continuous improvement and very helpful advice or answers from th author. I take the "tape-out" from my ampliflier to the "line-in" of the soundcard (instead of a tape-recorder). Rana

Subject: RE: Help: transfer from cassettes to cd-rw From: Brendy Date: 04 Feb 01 - 09:03 AM Cakewalk's pro Audio 9 will accomodate you with Line-in recording. The resulting track/tracks are then saved as .wav files. Steinberg's WaveLab is nifty in so far as the programme is geared to prepare .wav files for eventual writing to CD.. They can easily be 'de-noised', expanded, etc in WaveLab. NTI CD Maker Professional 2000 offers you the option of making a Live recording, directly onto your CD. It also converts MP3's to .wav files. Cakewalk reverses that process (.wav - .mp3). B. |
Subject: RE: Help: transfer from cassettes to cd-rw From: Nynia Date: 04 Feb 01 - 09:24 AM Your LP's / Tapes will have degraded in quality since their production. If you wish to regain some of this loss I would suggest purchasing Steinberg "Clean". At approx £100 it is not cheap but I have found it invaluable. I recently found a host of my fathers tape recordings from the late seventies, many are live recordings from what was our local folk club. Clean has been a godsend bringing back so much vitality that was missing, it'll never be as good as the original, but it's the best i've found. All the best Nynia. |
Subject: RE: Help: transfer from cassettes to cd-rw From: GUEST,Rana Date: 04 Feb 01 - 10:10 AM One more point - shouldn't be a problem these days (except for me since I only have a 1.3 gig harddrive on my laptop), it is ~ 10 meg /min recording, thus you'll need 740 meg for a full size CD. Also some programs use a temp file so you'll need more. If you get other programmes to process your wav file then add more for that. It has been rewarding delving back into my old lp's. Rana |
Subject: RE: Help: transfer from cassettes to cd-rw From: George Seto - af221@chebucto.ns.ca Date: 04 Feb 01 - 10:21 AM I've heard that CD-RW discs aren't necessarily readable in CD players. You might want to look at CD-R drives. Something about the reflectivity of the media. |
Subject: RE: Help: transfer from cassettes to cd-rw From: Stilly River Sage Date: 26 Apr 03 - 02:09 PM Since this was linked to in a simliar thread, but is a couple of years old, it could probably do with some radical updates! |
Subject: RE: Help: transfer from cassettes to cd-rw From: GUEST,sorefingers Date: 26 Apr 03 - 07:54 PM Since I have gone both ways, RA and MP3, for distros and other uses, I can tell you that Music-Match does provide translation from any input from a mixer to MP3-on hard drive. You would need reserve at least 1 gig free for that use. Some versions of later Multimedia SWs like Music-Match would probably go direct to CD, however in my limited Audiomixing experience that would be a really bad idea, since remixes often include cuts and pastes. So doing the Master to a hard disk would be a far better option. Since I have used HP exclusively I cannot comment on other brands. My HP - on a seperate system - does great, simple, intuitive and never complains. It pays to install these into a newer computer since one bad ribbon cable can cause endless problems - like failure to read a disk made when the cable was not properly connected. The HP version of CD burning SW opens as soon as you insert a blank CD. The best option I found - after experiment - is the CD R since editing on the CD is both costly and too slow. You can simply drag, via Explorer, folders and files from any location to the CD, which is neat. Later for the final Master - assuming like me you never ever use a home PC to burn thousands of CDs, but instead job it out to a Printer - would be a copy of the edited one. That is always a good idea since it is supposed to provide DOS access to the files as well as the Directorylisting. IOW you could copy in DOS from the second CD but not the first. I have no idea why that is, and I have never tried to copy in DOS, but it is in my HP user manual. Finaly a typical CD R holds about one hour of music, but I rarely use more than 30 minutes. Hope that helps ya.... BTW The product rocks in a MP3 playa oh yeeeeaaaahhhhhh |
Subject: RE: Help: transfer from cassettes to cd-rw From: Rapparee Date: 26 Apr 03 - 10:02 PM I'm going to waste fifty bucks and try the Sony E-Z Editor software. I'd make a blue clicky but it doesn't seem to be working right now. You could try copy & pasting http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/en/-/USD/SY_DisplayProductInformation-Start;sid=aPZov3_ub01oo0FFXwlitDD_nv9UgxWqSbI=?CatalogCategoryID=miwKC0%2eNH%2eEAAAD0P8kNJMQy&ProductID=guEKC0%2eNWvIAAAD0kFcNJMQ2&Dept=hav but if that doesn't work, just try searching at www.sony.com for E-Z Editor. |
