Subject: Lyrics: Gentle Maiden/Child of Dreamland From: GUEST,kenransom@mail.com Date: 16 Feb 01 - 04:59 AM I'm after the lyrics to a gorgeous tune called Gentle Maiden. It's a tune often played in Northumberland (England) but I believe it is originally Irish. I've done some surfing and discovered that it is also called The Child of Dreamland. Loads of sites have a midi version of it, but no lyrics. Any help would be much appreciated. Ken |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Gentle Maiden/Child of Dream From: GUEST,Annie Laurie Date: 20 Apr 01 - 09:23 AM I just wanted to thank Ken and the others who asked for these lyrics (you read my mind), Wolfgang for pointing us to them, and Frank for supplying them in the first place. This is such a beautiful song! I became aware of the melody from the Galway/Coulter version (on the 'Legends' CD) in which it is intertwined beautifully with 'Believe Me If All Those Endearing Young Charms'. Then I was re-watching one of my favorite movies, called 'A Summer Story', and was surprised to hear that the male lead (James Wilby) actually sings this song! I picked up some of the words from there, but was stumped by what sounded like, "bluesy way" and other tricky spots. The words/song are SO appropriate to the sad, sad story of this movie (I recommend it is you haven't seen it). Another example of how well-chosen music can set a movie apart! Thanks again, everyone, for the words to The Gentle Maiden! |
