Subject: Tune Name Required, ABC inside.
From: MudGuard
Date: 11 Sep 02 - 12:34 PM

Hello,

for some days now, this tune is whirling round my head, but I can't name it, so I can't find the rest of it (if anyone has the complete tune beside the name, I'd be grateful!).

Here is the abc for the tune start:

T:Unknown
M:1/4
L:1/4
C:unknown
S:whirling round my head...
K:G
|:z2D|G>AG|F>ED|d2z|efg|d>cB:|[1A>Bc|B2z]|[2A>GF|G2z]|

btw, is this the correct way to write down a repeat with two different endings?
If not, how should I do it?
I am asking because Harmony doesn't display it as I would expect, but ABC2WIN does...

Thanks in advance,
MudGuard

This may be completly off the mark, but the fragment you have reminds me of 'Rosin le Beau'

The Gentle Maiden was recorded by John McCormack. The notes on Songs and Ballads (COHL 124) say "Old Irish Iar arranged by Aruthur Somerville; English Words by Harold Boulton".

Whilst I agree "The Gentle Maiden" is sung to that tune, I am not convinced it is the name of the tune.

The tune appears in "O'Neills Music of Ireland" # 282.

Here is the sheet music of the Gentle Maiden followed by Seamus O'Brian. There is also an mp3 penny-whistle sound file.
