Subject: Lyrics: From: Les Benedict Date: 14 Oct 97 - 11:52 PM At a concert not long ago I heard the Woods Tea Company do a song to the tune of "With You My Johnny Lad" (Scots), but it had "Jenny Lynn or Lynde" in the chorus -- ie " And with you and with you, and with you my Jenny Lynn, I'll dance you down to Glasgow town and dance you home again." Anyone know where to find these lyrics? |

Subject: RE: Lyrics: From: Moira Cameron Date: 17 Oct 97 - 01:04 AM I don't know the song, but the woman's name was probably Jenny Lind. She was a very popular singer from Sweden. She was called the Swedish nightengale, and was very popular in England and all over Europe in the 19th Century. |

Subject: RE: Lyrics: From: Jon W. Date: 17 Oct 97 - 07:31 PM I've got a recording of Woods Tea Co. doing a song about a schooner called the "Jenny Lynne" but it's no relation to "With you my Johnny Lad." If I remember right the song is on their album "Journey Home(?)" |

Subject: RE: Lyrics: From: rich r Date: 17 Oct 97 - 10:43 PM Judging from the segment of chorus, it seems to be a version of a song recorded by the Kingston Trio inder the name "Genny Glenn" (New Frontier, 1962 also on The Capitol Years 4 CD set). I don't have those words written down but will try to get them. the bigger question is when I will be able to post them. This is the first time in a while I have been able to read a thread. A couple nights ago, it took 20 minutes just to load the site and then I couldn't read even a short thread after another 10 minutes. Another variant of the song was recoded by the Chad Mitchell Trio (CMT Arrives aka CMT). Theirs is called "Sally Ann" with a chorus: But for you, but for you, but for you my Sally Ann I'd dance the buckles off my shoes for you my Sally Ann
rich r I submitted this about 10 minutes ago, but the site never fully reloaded and this is still here. If this ends up as a duplicate (or more), I apologize |

Subject: Lyr Add: JENNY-LYNNE (Michael Lussen) From: Joe Offer Date: 18 Oct 97 - 02:14 AM Less, I think you're talkin' through your hat on this one. I transcribed "Jenny-Lynne," as performed by the Woods Tea Co. Good song, though - I'm glad you led me to it. -Joe Offer- JENNY-LYNNE by Michael Lussen (Woods Tea Co.) There is a lofty schooner, named the Jenny-Lynne In every port from Boston Harbor to St. Thomas she has been. She rides the roughest ocean, and always makes good time, There's another harbor farther down the line. [chorus] I left my girl in Newport, waving from the shore; A lady of uncommon grace, so gentle and so fine, When I returned, the note she left said she'd wait no more There was another harbor farther down the line. [chorus] So now I sail the Jenny-Lynne, I rove upon the Main Sometimes the sea is calm, sometimes there's wind and rain Just keep on tackin' to the wind that cuts the ocean brine "Cause there's another harbor farther down the line. [chorus] And someday I may find a port where all the nights are warm Or maybe I'll be drowned in a North Atlantic storm I must believe in heaven, when it comes my time, There's another harbor farther down the line. [chorus] Transcribed from the "Journey Home" CD - a few words may not be exactly right. |

Subject: Lyr Add: GENNY GLENN (Kingston Trio) From: Jim Dixon Date: 16 Nov 07 - 12:13 AM Copied from http://www.lyrics007.com/Kingston%20Trio%20Lyrics/Genny%20Glenn%20Lyrics.html : GENNY GLENN John Stewart/Bob Shane/Nick Reynolds (The Kingston Trio) Well, I'm not gonna brag but I been courtin' all my life. They consider me a roguish lad, especially for my size. CHORUS: And with you, and with you, and with you, Genny Glenn, I'll take you down to Glasgow Town and dance you home again. And with you, and with you, and with you, Genny Glenn, I'll take you down to Glasgow Town and dance you home again. Now, Genny would come a-callin' while there was still some light. I'd sit her down with a pull or two. She'd stay most all the night. I'd put my arm around her and then I'd bar the door. There'd be laughin' and some squealin' like you never heard before. CHORUS Well, a lot of girls would 'a' liked me and they're pretty, heaven knows, But there's something about my Genny that keeps me on my toes. She'd tickle me and squeeze me till I could hardly moan. Then she'd light out a-runnin' and I'd chase her halfway home. CHORUS Well, she wouldn't come to see me for about a week or more. She'd do it just to tease me 'cause she knew it made me sore. Then I'd do whiskey drinkin' till the jug was getting dry. I'd go lookin' for my Genny with a mean look in my eye. CHORUS |
