Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The proposal and water From: Joe Offer Date: 20 Feb 01 - 02:58 AM Hi, Leo - maybe it would help if you could give us what you recall of the lyrics. We may not know the song by the same title, but maybe we'll recognize it from a phrase from the lyrics. -Joe Offer- |

Subject: Lyr Add: WATER From: Jim Dixon Date: 24 Oct 01 - 03:56 PM I listened to the sound clips, and then plugged some of the words I heard into Google. This is what I found at Åke Holm's website (Sweden):
WATER
Water, we need water today.
Water, we got to have water today.
Bamboo. I never seen bamboo so dry.
Water me while I'm on my bended knee.
Water, we got to have water today.
Water me while I'm on my bended knee.
Water, we got to have water today. Water we need water today. [I took the liberty of adding punctuation and changing "de" to "the".] * I couldn't make out anything from "The Proposal." The clip is mostly a guitar intro. The few words sound like they might be French. The same site that I linked to above also mentions "The Proposal" but it doesn't give any lyrics. However, it credits the authorship to "M. Keith - A. Bergman - M. Luboff." The Folk Music Index says "The Proposal" was also recorded by the Brothers Four on "Rally 'Round!," Columbia CL 1479, LP (196?); and by Lo Jai on "Lo Jai: French Traditional Music from the Limousin," Shanachie 21008, LP (1986). If I understand correctly, it also says the original title was "Demanda de la Novia." However, that looks more like Spanish than French to me. (I will send a message to thwolters@home.nl)

Subject: Lyr Add: THE PROPOSAL (Bergman,Bergman,Luboff) From: Jim Dixon Date: 09 Oct 10 - 11:20 PM Found at Lyricspedia.com: THE PROPOSAL (Written by Marilyn Bergman, Alan Bergman, & Norman Luboff, based on a Hatian folk song) As sung by the Brothers Four on "Rally 'Round" (1960) CHORUS: Ma'moiselle, je vous aime pour tout ma vie. How I want to marry you! Never, ever have I proposed before. What I tell you is true. Ma'moiselle, je vous aime pour tout ma vie. How I want to marry you! I can promise most happy life with me If you answer "I do." 1. I travel over mountain and hill, Even sail the tropical sea. I never feel excitement until You look in the direction of me. Now the situation is clear. No more travelling will I do. Because I have romantic idea, And you know it's all about you. CHORUS 2. I'll build a house for you in the sun. From the window we'll see the moon. We'll be the envy of ev'ryone, And we'll be more than two very soon. Oh, to think this happen to me, To settle down and pick me a wife, With all the pretty fish in the sea, To want to give up fishing for life! CHORUS |
