I've just heard from a friend that one of the old Sun recording artists of the 50s, Malcolm Yelvington has passed away after a long battle with cancer. He wasn't a big star, but cut some fairly good stuff and I thought that any old Rockers out there might like to pause for a moment and think of him. It's sad to here of these guys passing. To borrow an expression from Dylan,in my mind they're "forever young"

But Sleepy La Beef carries on. Several of the Sun records compilations are currently available if folks want to hear what the lesser known pioneers of Rockabilly sounded like.

Great Rockabilly artist Steve. Still out there playing after forty years or so. You'd like him.....you can find him on the net.

I'm just about to dust off my Sun re-issues of Malcom Yelvington etc to speed him on his way. Anyone interested in sending sympathy cards or messages of condolence can send them to his widow, Mrs Luella Yelvington, 1105 Creston AVE.Memphis TN.38127. Just a thought. Sleepy La Beef the "Rockabilly Heavyweight" can sure kick butt. He has to be one of the most powerful singers in the business.
