Subject: I'm ba-a-a-ck From: murray@mpce.mq.edu.au Date: 03 Mar 01 - 01:40 AM Probably nobody noticed I was gone, but I made a short trip to the US to visit family. I went to Philadelphia and Iowa City, but I didn't look up any mudcaters as I had specific things to do, and relatively little time to do them. However, I did go to Acoustic Roots in Jenkintown where I bought a Martin 000-15S. I have been considering the Larrivee Parlor and that one. They are different in size and sound; but both have a slightly wider fingerboard than dreads and both meet the body at the 12th fret. I like both these features. As soon as I had the Martin in my hand for 15 min, I knew it was the one for me. Some time ago I planned a trip to Philly and asked about guitar stores there. Somebody suggested Acoustic Roots and I remembered that. I don't remember who it was that made the suggestion, but many thanks. If anyone remembers doing it, make yourself kown. That store and Vintage Guitars(?) on Pine St. were the only two interesting shops I saw. Murray |

Subject: RE: BS: I'm ba-a-a-ck From: catspaw49 Date: 03 Mar 01 - 12:27 PM Hellfire Murray.....You're so in and out at times its hard to keep track of what you're up to!!!! After all the thread debates, I AM GLAD that you got what what you want! Now keep your moustache in tune and you'll be all set. Spaw |

Subject: RE: BS: I'm ba-a-a-ck From: murray@mpce.mq.edu.au Date: 03 Mar 01 - 09:39 PM OK Rick I won't ask why, but I sure am curious! Spaw: I moved last year and didn't have access to a computer for a while. Then I had some health problems, so until recently I haven't been very active. I hope the new computer and modem I bought for my new house is fast enough to make it less tedious to bring in some of the huge threads that are on Mudcat these days. Since I am back a number of people have said I should trim my moustache, but nobody has complained of it being out of tune yet. Murray |

Subject: RE: BS: I'm ba-a-a-ck From: Mark Clark Date: 03 Mar 01 - 11:35 PM Oh great! An actual living mudcatter comes within minutes of my house and I miss the whole thing! Many people seem torn between visiting Philadelphia and Iowa City so they compromise and spend some time in each of these great cities. It happens all the time. Of course the more sophisticated pass on Philly and spend all their time in Iowa city. Hope you got what you needed. - Mark |

Subject: RE: BS: I'm ba-a-a-ck From: GUEST,murray@mpce.mq.edu.au Date: 04 Mar 01 - 04:52 AM Mark. I can't tell from your message if you are in Philly or in IC. My mother lives in Philly and my mother-in-law lives in IC. I am one of those rare birds that not only gets along with my m.o.l, but we like each other, so I always go to Iowa when I come to the US. I didn't tell anyone I was going to visit the US. I will next time and allow more time there. As I told spaw I have been having some health problems, and I wanted to see how things went before commiting myself to a longer period. Spaw. I had a look at the gadget. I think it can be greatly improved if between the prongs of the fork and a little below them you add a nozzle with a syringe-type squeeze ball. You can fill this with water and clean your teeth while you tune your moustache. I hope that as an originator, I get a free one. Murray |

Subject: RE: BS: I'm ba-a-a-ck From: catspaw49 Date: 04 Mar 01 - 12:14 PM Murray, I'd be happy to send you one for free. Just send along $49.95 US to cover shipping, handling, packing materials, a six pack, and a portion of my electric bill. Please send cash as I have no reason to believe your checks are worth a damn and credit cards are too easily traced by the IRS.

Subject: RE: BS: I'm ba-a-a-ck From: Mark Cohen Date: 04 Mar 01 - 04:02 PM Spaw, it's amazing to see what has happened as a result of a simple comment about Gordon Bok! I am impressed...I think. Aloha, Mark, who grew up in Philly (birthplace of Gordon Bok) but never heard of Iowa City |

Subject: RE: BS: I'm ba-a-a-ck From: Bert Date: 05 Mar 01 - 11:43 AM Anyone who goes to, or near, Philly and doesn't visit us at Mudcat is likely to end up in DEEP doo doo. |

Subject: RE: BS: I'm ba-a-a-ck From: SINSULL Date: 05 Mar 01 - 11:45 AM Did I understand you correctly Bert? Anyone who goes near Philly is likely to end up in deep doo doo? The city fathers won't like that. And today it is probably deep snow, right? |

Subject: RE: BS: I'm ba-a-a-ck From: JedMarum Date: 05 Mar 01 - 11:48 AM the Martin 000, eh? Sounds like a great choice. I love the sound of the 000 sized guitars. I don't believe I've tried that particluar model, but congrats on the new guitar. |

Subject: RE: BS: I'm ba-a-a-ck From: Bert Date: 05 Mar 01 - 12:02 PM SINS, It's anyone that comes within range of Mudcatville (West Chester, PA) and doesn't visit US that will get into trouble. We'll make a special batch for them. And to make matters worse, we HATE people telling us about the NEW GUITARS that they have just bought. *BG* To tell you the truth WE don't go into Philly very often. We have all we need here in Mudcatville. |

Subject: RE: BS: I'm ba-a-a-ck From: Wesley S Date: 05 Mar 01 - 12:37 PM I've considered that same model of Martin myself so any other details or opinions you have to offer would be gratfully accepted. Thanks. |

Subject: RE: BS: I'm ba-a-a-ck From: Mark Clark Date: 05 Mar 01 - 01:25 PM Murray, I'm in Cedar Rapids, about 25 miles north of Iowa City but only a few minutes from the airport. If you get back this way, let me know you're coming. - Mark |

Subject: RE: BS: I'm ba-a-a-ck From: catspaw49 Date: 05 Mar 01 - 10:25 PM Gee Mark, I didn't know it was Cedar Rapids.......that's very pretty town. I almost took a job there 15 or so years ago. I actually accepted the job and drove up there, had the movers coming in a couple of days and everything, but something about it bothered me and I drove back to Nashville and called them, saying I had changed my mind. But the city was not the problem.....a very lovely place. Spaw |

Subject: RE: BS: I'm ba-a-a-ck From: GUEST,murray@mpce.mq.edu.au Date: 06 Mar 01 - 01:44 AM OK Mark Clark. I will keep that in mind. After all the airport is between the two towns. Mark Cohen. I didn't know Bok was born in Philly. I assumed he was Main born and bred. Wesley, I think I don't have a lot of details, but I think I will start a new thread on the subject. This might get more people involved than the thread with this title. Spaw. How about a Hawaiian nut razor as an invention. If it jells, I expect to get the tuner w/o paying shippint etc. Murray |
