Subject: THIS MONTH'S VANITY FAIR COVER!! From: Peter T. Date: 09 Mar 01 - 09:15 AM Never did I think I would advertise a magazine cover, but here goes. This month's Vanity Fair cover has assembled what it calls "classic beauties" from the film industry. Some genius had the brains to bring together (1) Sophia Loren; (2) Vanessa Redgrave; (3) A lot of other women a rung down, like Kate Winslett, etc. These are really beautiful women, beautifully dressed. Do yourself a favour. Really. I have no idea what is in the rest of the magazine. Probably junk. They rolled up the magazine and put it on the stretcher with the respirator when they wheeled me out of the magazine store. yours, Peter T. |

Subject: RE: THIS MONTH'S VANITY FAIR COVER!! From: GUEST,Roger the skiffler Date: 09 Mar 01 - 09:44 AM What? You mean they didn't use the group photo of 'Spaw, Peter T, me, Kendall,Matt_B, Bert,Rick and Max all showing off our pecs? Blatant sex discrimination I say! All those wasted hours with the baby oil! RtS (to those with no sense of irony: this photo doesn't exist, don't worry!) |

Subject: RE: THIS MONTH'S VANITY FAIR COVER!! From: Peg Date: 09 Mar 01 - 11:30 AM I have bought this magazine for the cover; specifically, the one with Emma Thompson dressed in a golden suit of armor; and the one with Ewan Macgregor in a kilt with a brace of pheasants slung at his feet... it is not at all a bad magazine; often has very interesting investigative articles (I remember a couple of fascinating and well-written ones on the Jonbenet Ramsey case) BTW I do not find Kate Winslet to be a second tier beauty at all! That lovely English rose complexion, her doe-eyes, and honey-coloured hair... |
Subject: RE: THIS MONTH'S VANITY FAIR COVER!! From: LR Mole Date: 09 Mar 01 - 12:21 PM Who, me? Naw, didn't say a thing.I just get mammoth crushes on a nearly-daily basis. And sigh a lot. |

Subject: RE: THIS MONTH'S VANITY FAIR COVER!! From: Rick Fielding Date: 09 Mar 01 - 11:20 PM I can assure you that Peter T. does go out occasionally...well actually they LET him out on weekends. Have to agree with him about Vanity Fair. It's an interesting alternative to those Sports Illustrated swimsuit issues. Rick |
Subject: RE: THIS MONTH'S VANITY FAIR COVER!! From: CarolC Date: 09 Mar 01 - 11:36 PM Hmm... That's funny. Every time I saw Peter T., he had at least a half dozen beautiful, admiring women draped all over him. Some of them were probably on that magazine cover... |
Subject: RE: THIS MONTH'S VANITY FAIR COVER!! From: CarolC Date: 09 Mar 01 - 11:41 PM ...and by the way, Rick, if Duckboots wasn't on that magazine cover, she should have been. (my two cents worth) |
Subject: RE: THIS MONTH'S VANITY FAIR COVER!! From: katlaughing Date: 10 Mar 01 - 12:06 AM Peter, which month's issue, exactly? I was in the store today and looked at the only issue available, March 2001, and it only had a single woman on the cover. But,then, everything comes late to Wyoming, so maybe it is April's? kat |

Subject: RE: THIS MONTH'S VANITY FAIR COVER!! From: John Nolan Date: 10 Mar 01 - 09:29 AM Vanity Fair has the most talented staff in magazine publishing today. Ingrid Sischy is, in our opinion, the best writer on the arts in America today. Another contributing editor is Christopher Hitchins, who has no equal when attacking the spitefulness of capitalism or debunking sacred cows like Mother Theresa. Contributing photographers include world renowned names like Helmut Newton and Annie Leibovitz. We could go on and on. The arrival of the magazine is a welcomed monthly in this house - our only complaint is those damned perfumed ad pages. John Nolan/Stephanie Piro |

Subject: RE: THIS MONTH'S VANITY FAIR COVER!! From: Duckboots Date: 10 Mar 01 - 11:28 AM May I blush along with you Carol? Well this certainly brightened up my morning, especially since I'm sitting here in my bathrobe contemplating a seriously bad Hair day! I almost never reply to anything on Mudcat, although I peruse it every day, because I know absolutely nothing about the inner workings of folk music (Rick says "Why should that stop you"?) and even worse, I immediately flew to the "Vanity Fair" thread, which was unlikely to even be about Thackeray. Peter, would you put Ava Gardiner in your "exalted" list? Carol, glad you've settled in again. It was so nice meeting you, and if ever do decide to take up residence in Canada, you'll find the "friend pool" deep and welcoming. When I left/deserted Glasgow for Canada I thought I'd be wearing Muckluks for the rest of my life, but now I love the climate changes. Oh, and thanks Matt R. To be noticed by a "younger man" doesn't hurt the old ego! Duckboots |
Subject: RE: THIS MONTH'S VANITY FAIR COVER!! From: CarolC Date: 10 Mar 01 - 11:45 AM Hi Duckboots. It was good to meet you, too.
Re: taking up residence in Canada... I'm sorely tempted. If only I could find a way to Carol |
Subject: RE: THIS MONTH'S VANITY FAIR COVER!! From: Little Hawk Date: 10 Mar 01 - 11:50 AM Is Lauren Bacall there? - LH |
Subject: RE: THIS MONTH'S VANITY FAIR COVER!! From: Peter T. Date: 10 Mar 01 - 12:42 PM Ava Gardner is pretty high on my list. Certainly in the Duckboots range. Though what she saw in Frank Sinatra I could never figure. yours, Peter T. |
Subject: RE: THIS MONTH'S VANITY FAIR COVER!! From: Rick Fielding Date: 10 Mar 01 - 01:17 PM Power, Peter. Well I guess it's time to be a Phillistine here. When I was about 13 I saw Shirley MacLaine in "The Children's Hour" and a bit later, "The Apartment". OOGAH BOOGAH! From jolly olde England came the fair Glynis Johns. Blimey! By 18 I'd discovered BARBARA PARKINS (in Peyton Place) Wow! Shortly after....Jean Simmons! (in Spartacus) I'd have been a revolting slave for her anytime. Jenny Agutter then came along (in a Sci-Fi with Michael York) and I was smitten again. A horrid movie called "The Tall Guy" featured Emma Thompson. Nurse! Nurse! Before her grotesque implants (in my opinion) Myra Sorvino was amazing! Funny thing, but I could never figure out Joan Crawford, Bette Davis, or Kate hepburn. Guess beauty IS in the eye of the beholder. Rick

Subject: RE: THIS MONTH'S VANITY FAIR COVER!! From: Peter T. Date: 10 Mar 01 - 03:47 PM Well, O.K., but I suppose it is time to clear out the also rans, and merely say two words: Julie Christie. Anyone ever see Billy Liar, her first film, with Tom Courtenay? At the end of the film he has to decide if he is going to go off with Julie Christie to London, or go back home. He goes back home. I have never really been able to take British males seriously ever since. yours, Peter T. |
Subject: RE: THIS MONTH'S VANITY FAIR COVER!! From: catspaw49 Date: 10 Mar 01 - 04:35 PM Rick, you got any idea how many times I watched "Valley of the Dolls?" No tapes or anything back then, just paid my bucks again and again and again...........A snowy day, beautiful countryside, and some sack time in front of the fire with Barbara Parkins...............................I was really hopeless at one point, like I wanted to BE Paul Burke.............Barbara Parkins...WOW!!! Spaw |
Subject: RE: THIS MONTH'S VANITY FAIR COVER!! From: Justa Picker Date: 10 Mar 01 - 04:39 PM Apparently what Eva saw in Frank, Peter T., was his "endowment". (This is chronicled in at least 2 biographies of Sinatra.) |
Subject: RE: THIS MONTH'S VANITY FAIR COVER!! From: Duckboots Date: 10 Mar 01 - 05:09 PM His endowment? Does that mean he left her some money? Peter, we agree on Julie Christie. Who wouldn't? Gosh, we're old, Spaw. Rick |
Subject: RE: THIS MONTH'S VANITY FAIR COVER!! From: Peg Date: 10 Mar 01 - 09:04 PM Julie Christie's a babe. I taught "Don't Look Now" in my film class last week. There is one weird scene at the end when she is dresed in mourning and loks a bit like a drag queen playing Julie Christie; other than that she is lovely as the day is long...
