Here is another Mormon folk song, presented as an ABC file and textual MIDI. The process I went through to post this was: Using ABC2WIN, a very nice shareware program, I entered the tune from the sheet music. This was easier than I thought it would be. I also entered the lyrics and other information that appears in the abc format below. I ran that file through ABC2MID, another shareware(freeware?) DOS program to convert to MIDI. I ran the MIDI through Alan of Oz's MID2TXT to produce the MIDI text. I cut out the redundant ABC part of that, though. Enjoy! X: 1

Oops, I should have put an HTML break after the Enjoy! part. The ABC format should include the X:1 line.

Also, if anyone is familiar with this tune for any other folksong, please let me know - I'm interested to know whether the composer made up the tune or just the lyrics. You can email me by clicking the "Email Member" button at the top of the forum page.

Good to see MIDItext being used. I copied your MIDI file and found it included an accompaniment. I used my sequencer to delete all but the melody with the result below.

Your MIDI also had a tempo of 55 which upset the ABC part of MID2txt somewhat (it only does a very simple minded ABC conversion). Changing back to 110 or 100 worked fine, see below.

I suppose the accompaniment was added by ABC2MID because I included chords (the letters in double quotes) in the original ABC. I wondered why the MIDI was so long. I'll be sure to just run the melody through next time.

Wasn't there a spoof one time about St. George and the Dragnet?

I also recall a TV show in England about St George and the Dragon. It was about a pub called "The St George" and the landlords wife was the dragon
