Subject: Anyone else a member of Zoetrope-online? From: katlaughing Date: 19 Mar 01 - 02:01 PM This is Francis Ford Coppola's American Zoetrope Virtual Studio. It is a site which welcomes all to interact in stories, film scripts and scores, songwriting, movie production, and other things. There are discussion groups, chats, and peer reviews. I am just wondering if any other Mudcatters belong to it. I just found it and joined two days ago. It is well structured and very fair with a lot of suggestions for getting your works noticed, etc. In order to post a story and receive reviews, which can start the process of moving to the top, which in turn is more likely to get your stuff noticed, you have to post it, then review 5 stories posted by other writers. I did this and received a great review of what I consider to be one of my best. After reading the five required, I have come to the conclusion, yet again, that we have such great and fantastic talent, here...I would urge any of you to check this site out and see what it might do for you. Of course, they don't make any promises, but it is really great the way it is set up, etc. I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who may have experience with them, who reads the hard copy or online magazines, etc. Thanks! kat |

Subject: RE: Anyone else a member of Zoetrope-online? From: mousethief Date: 19 Mar 01 - 03:15 PM I'm not interested in movies. I'm not particularly fond of movies as an art form (or an entertainment form). For the most part they seem to me to be a waste of time. I'm sure this is due to some lack in me, and I envy those of you who enjoy movies so much. Alex |

Subject: RE: Anyone else a member of Zoetrope-online? From: katlaughing Date: 19 Mar 01 - 03:35 PM Oh, Alex...I am sorry I didn't portray it correctly at all, if that is the impression you got. Here, let me let them tell you what the site is: "Welcome to the Virtual Studio! The Virtual Studio is collaborative tool and submission destination for filmmakers--a place where writers, actors, designers, composers, and others can meet and review one another's work. It is also a place where producers can make movies using built-in production tools and can find talented artists to work as cast and crew on their movies. If you haven't yet taken the Tour of the Virtual Studio, we invite you to do so now." (highlights are mine) It is a wonderful place for a writer and also to shop one's songs. They have areas in Writing, which includes short stories, novellas, poetry, and screenwriting; Art & Design (I know we have some graphic designers out there!); Music and Sound - submit your songs, review other's songs; Acting; Directing; and there is a Film School. Each one of those areas has a great array of things to choose from to, hone your skills, help others, submit your works and review those of other members. Hey! Maybe you can sell a song for a movie! The thing I am enjoying the most, as a writer, is learnign from other's experiences. There's tons of info in there that it would take me days to find out on my own, surfing the net. So, anyway....please check it out, if you're interested, if not, no problem. kat |

Subject: RE: Anyone else a member of Zoetrope-online? From: Mrs.Duck Date: 19 Mar 01 - 05:19 PM A zoetrope was the earliest form of movie made by a strip of images inside a drum which you watched through a slit and as it turned round it looked like the pictures were moving. The site sounds interesting kat I'll try it out tomorrow. |

Subject: RE: Anyone else a member of Zoetrope-online? From: Mountain Dog Date: 19 Mar 01 - 09:15 PM Hi, Kat Thanks for the timely jog to my memory. I'd run across Zoetrope's site about a year ago and made a mental note to investigate further...sometime "soon". Travel and other work intervened, but I've recently been reminded of Zoetrope by a member of a writer's group to which we belong and now by you as well. So in this case, later is still soon enough. Probably sign up in the next couple of days. Again, thanks for the reminder!

Subject: RE: Anyone else a member of Zoetrope-online? From: WyoWoman Date: 27 Mar 01 - 01:32 PM Kat -- I actually have known about this for some time as well, but hadn't joined because of time constraints (back when I was earning an actual, like, living). I have a novella I'd love to submit -- but it's 8,000 words. I'll go check to see if that will work. And thanks for the reminder. I'll definitely join today. ww |
